The tan cat purrs contentedly on Dean's back when Sam wakes up the next morning. It looks like it's been there for hours, curled up, eyes closed, sounding like a well-oiled motor. Loud enough to cover Dean's soft snores.
It briefly cracks open an eye when Sam sits up, and that's the only way it deigns to acknowledge his presence.
"You really like him, don't you?"
He doesn't get an answer. Unless you count the ignorance inherent in the unchanging purring as one. Dean's just as oblivious.
Sam opts to take advantage of the peace and quiet and claims the bathroom.
The cat hasn't moved an inch of its body when he re-emerges. This time, it doesn't admit even as much of a change in the Force as earlier.
"Dean," Sam calls, gets a snuffle in response. He kicks his brother's bed; the cat glares at him, its eyes eerily blue. Dean turns his head on the pillow.
"I'll go get some breakfast. You want anything?"
Dean mumbles something.
"Catnip?"
His brother flips him the bird while Sam's already heading for the door.
Now I'm going to bed, despite the temptation to stay up and see what's what...
Tomorrow, I'm having a check-up. But I don't wanna go! *whines*
