It took me a while (and, finally, a bigger screen) to realize they weren't trying to rock short shorts. I just couldn't comprehend Mikeyway in short shorts. Sadly, the rest, I totally thought it was possible.

Short shorts and fake snow. It's very plausible! Except for Mikey, because he has far too much stoic dignity for that. And, according to Gerard's design sketches , we can blame HIM for the flesh colored snow pants? And the knee-pad leg patches?
