Crazy, crazy times...

Wow, so the last three weeks have been insane!

- attended the SIWC conference, it was awesome

- went straight to LA afterwards for 8 days. Had a fabulous time, the weather was amazing, hung out with some good friends (both old and newer), ate in some great restaurants including the Soho House which is an exclusive "members only" artists club (some of the friends we were visiting are fairly well known so they took us to their swanky club). We stayed in a friend's apartment which is a tiny guest house in someone's backyard, they have a beautiful little setup which includes getting to hang out with the lovely, lovely dogs who live in the main house/backyard. We got to see a lot of Mike's new movie (the one he shot in Winnipeg - the time he went blind) which is an INTENSE movie and fairly disturbing but very, very well done and Mike is beyond spectacular in it. I am very proud. It was a great week all around.

- came home to a job interview at the craft store the next morning (sadly, not the one right across the street from my studio, but a branch of the same chain) and was hired on the spot

- have spent the last week adjusting to my new part time, minimum wage job. Which also means adjusting to having to get dressed most days and to standing for long periods of time. It's a bit boring, but the people are nice and it's not too demanding (and comes with an awesome 25% discount on crafty supplies I would be buying anyway!)

- the worst part about working again is having to rely on someone else for my schedule. It's a pain not knowing when I am going to be working, I forgot how weird shift work is.

- oh yeah, and in amongst all that I had a birthday! Went out for dinner with some friends and family on Friday night then on Saturday (my actual birthday) Mike flew to Ottawa for a week. Because he is so awesome to me (and, I think, felt guilty for missing my birthday) he rented me a swanky hotel suite and arranged for someone to come look after the animals overnight. So Sarah (my SIL) and I went to the hotel, put on our pyjamas, ordered room service (on Mike!), watched cheesy movies, put on facemasks and hair treatments and ate a lot of junk food. It was the perfect girly slumber party!

- since Mike is out of town I am now dealing with the traditional car problems (something happens every single time he goes away, I am more than tired of it) and my car, which won't start at all, has been stranded at work since last night. Today being a holiday I can't do anything about it until tomorrow. Boo Hiss.

The upcoming week:

- Mike gets home on Saturday night just long enough to do laundry and then has to be out in Squamish early Sunday morning for another week for a different movie (sigh...)

- As of Sunday I am dog sitting an extra dog. Might possibly be an adventure as we have never tried this before. The dogs have met, and do get along well but I am not sure how happy Jake will be to have another dog in the house for 5 days. Not to mention Clyde (the cat) who is already tired of having even Jake in the house all the time.

- Then on Tuesday my oldest and dearest friend is coming to visit, primarily so that she can come see Harry Potter with us on Friday! It's always an awesome time with her here so I am very much looking forward to it, but sadly I have to work a couple of the days she is here. But we'll make it work, as long as neither of us is just stuck refereeing the dogs.

- Then, I think, Mike gets home on Friday night, the extra dog goes back to his own house Friday afternoon and my life will be "normal" for one weekend before Mike goes back out to Squamish again for a few more days. With the number of movies Mike has lined up right now it looks like this will be the new normal. He has barely time to catch his breath between, well... a month ago and April - and that's not even an exaggeration (and not a single one of the jobs takes place in Vancouver and only one of the upcoming ones is even in Canada) It's awesome, but exhausting for everyone involved. Word is apparently getting out about him and his work. Lets hope my new job is flexible enough that I can visit my wandering husband now and then...
