Please, please, please! Next time say "yendo", not "irando". That was gross. Your first sentence also probably should use an infinitive anyway: "¿Por qué tienes miedo de ir a España?" I think you meant "solamente", from the root adjective "solo"; to form the adverb just make the root adjective feminine then add "-mente". "Idioma" is a masculine word, from Greek, just like "problema" and most other words ending in "-ma". I'm pretty sure the cognate-translation for the English strange is "extraño/a". I think (I'm not sure) that you would say, "Los idiomas son extrañas y no son lo mismo como el nuestro." "Preocuparse" is reflexive, so the verb should agree with the reflexive pronoun: "no te preocupes." Finally, "tampoco" generally translates as neither; I think you meant "también

All I was really trying to do was to get the basic point across. Which is all I really can do.

I am not a native speaker. And I have not been any kind of speaker for five years.

Personally, though a bit shocked at the sheer number of mistakes I made, I'm impressed that I was able to wring any sort of meaning at all from the fog of time and a public school education.

Yendo? Jeez, I don't even remember that. Not even a little bit.

However, the question remains: if one wants to conjugate "preocuparse" into an informal negative command, why isn't "no te precupe" correct? Isn't "no te precupes" a variation of "you don't worry," rather than "don't worry?" Or have lost even more of the language than I thought?

Also: maybe I was just being avant-garde. Ever think of that?

Preocuparse is a reflexive verb, and it literally means "preoccupy yourself." Commands in Spanish usually use the subjunctive; the 2nd person positive (singular and plural) is an exception. I'll use an easier verb for an example: bañarse, to bathe oneself

Spain is wonderful. It's the best place. You'll love it, unless someone blows you up. The bombings in Madrid are really strange...that's not ETA's usual style at all, so I have to suspect that it's an outside group. On the plus side, it's statistically EXTREMELY unlikely that there will be two bombings in a short time period, so really you're safer now than if there hadn't been bombings.

Don't wear red and yellow, especially in the north, since it's the color of the monarchy and separatists don't like that. Mostly, though, just relax and have fun. Have some Rioja wine, have some paella, have some gambas al ajillo...goodness I love Spanish food.
