Fresh seasonal cooking is not an exception in most places in the world. The fact that the US somehow has to revive this idea and actually talk about it, instead of doing it naturally, may be a big clue about the state of our collective health and welfare. I'm glad to hear you're having a good time in Europe! (And it was good to finally see you the other day!)

As you know, fresh, seasonal cooking is central to Japanese cuisine. I've been able to impress expat Japanese people with my constant awareness of the seasonal delicacy. My secret is the Nintendo DS, which automatically suggests items to incorporate into the menu based on the calendar. Enjoy the food!

English is so widely spoken in most of Western Europe that I've hardly noticed, I have a very little Spanish and French to my name, but that's all!

That said, Prague was quite something else, whilst English was spoken in the biggest of attractions and sign posted, we found a lot of basic signing was needed elsewhere to get by. It was quite refreshing in a way, if not slightly deeper water culturally.
