CHARACTER INFORMATION
Canon Character and Series: Okita Sougo, Gintama
In-Game Name: Okita Sougo (Sougo for those close to him, Okita or Lieutenant for many)
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Rank: Lieutenant
Position & Ship: Gunner, Victoria II

Appearance:
Often dressed in his military garb, one would think that Sougo is some teenage punk who just likes to cosplay as a military officer. Truth be told, Sougo looks really really young for his age. His small build and height (he stands 170cm) makes him one of the shortest kids in his class. It doesn't help that he has such a youthful face, with bright red eyes and flaxen brownish-blonde hair. His uniform is a combination of black slacks and jacket with a golden yellow edging. On hot days, he'd take the jacket off and fold the sleeves of his white polo shirt underneath. Over it would be a vest which he rarely took off. Sougo is quite fond of vests. He's also fond of wearing a red eye mask with a picture of two eyes wide open while he's sleeping, on duty.

In his off days, Sougo would wear either a yukata or hakama. Wearing that makes him feel that he's really off work and he can pretty much do what he wants. Occasionally, he'd also wear some shades. Just fo sho.

Personality:
In spite of his innocent/childlike face, Sougo has earned the reputation being a man with a rotting black heart. Sougo is a sadist, taking great delight in seeing people, especially Hijikata Toshirou, writhe and crumble in his hands. No one could really understand his motivations in bullying people, but anyone who's crossed him would definitely know that behind that deadpan face and that deadpan voice is a vicious bastard who wouldn't hesitate to make your life a living hell.

There are two sides to Sougo's sadism. One involves a trickster, a petty bully who loves to make a joke out of a person's inconvenience. A short trip, a sudden nudge, a little bit of emotional blackmailing and a whack of a sword. His comrades think this is just Sougo being a joker (they'd find this side of his very funny, unless if they're the victim). For Sougo, it's all in a day's routine to satiate his little sadist.

The other side is a vicious sadist, a demon that only his enemies in battle could see; a cruel swordsman with a taste for blood and gore. This demon Sougo is unforgiving and wouldn't feel a it of guilt even if you begged for your life. If you messed with him, then he'll destroy your world. This is how demon Sougo works.

Behind this sadistic tendency is a side he's only shown to four peoplew in his life: his parents, his sister, and Kondou Isao. Sougo does have a cheerful side. To the people he's grown to respect and love, Sougo will flash an earnest smile and would do anything and verything to protect them and make them happy. He will make sacrifices just to accommodate them. He will even fight a friend just to give them what he thinks they should deserve. Once you've earned Sougo's respect, it's like having the most loyal puppy by your side. Until then, expect to be treated like trash or just some old fart that he's obligated to follow.

It is important to note though that Sougo will always treat Hijikata Toushirou differently. The two share a very painful past yet due to circumstances which Sougo completely understands, even if he will always always plot for Hijikata's demise, he can never completely destroy the man. Sougo has a quiet affection for the boatswain that his sister dearly loved. He understands perfectly well why Hijikata is the man that he is and has also accepted why he's made certain decisions in his life.

However, the brother in him, maybe even that little demon, occasionally cries out for some bit of justice. To this, Sougo will create little petty wars against Hijikata and take little victories for himself. The young officer has made it his manifesto to make Hijikata's life a manageable living hell until the man actually has some balls to finally take happiness for himself. Sougo respects Hijikata this way. He admires the man this way. It's really strange, but this is the logic of a twisted little sadist.

Abilities/Weapons:
Sougo, in spite of his frail features, is actually a very strong swordsman. His mother was exposed to mana crystals in her youth and this somehow affected Sougo's strength as the magic trickled down to him. His family also ran a dojo and he trained in it until he left for
the military. He has twice the speed and the strength of an average swordsman. It has been known that Sougo once managed to cut a vehicle with one swing of a sword. It has been known that he could kill a hundred men in less than an hour.

Sougo has three main weapons with him. First is his precious Kiku Ichimonji RX 78, a high quality sword. He bought it for a high price, a graduation gift of sorts when he finished his military schooling. His second weapon is his huge ass gun which he props over his shoulder
when he's using it. No one knows where Okita hides this gun. When he wants to shoot Hijikata with it, it just comes out. His third weapon is a plastic hammer that makes squeaking sounds when it hits on something. These weapons are very precious to Okita.

Despite having some semblance of magic in him, Sougo does not have any fantastic magical powers apart from his improved physical strength. He's also uninterested with magic. He takes pride in being a swordsman.

How well can your character hack?:
Sougo is knowledgeable in the journals and had vested interests in it when it first came out. He uses them to keep tabs of people he particularly cares about: Kondou Isao and Hijikata Toshizou. Since he got separated from them when they got assigned to different ships, he uses this to keep constant communications with them. He also uses this to gather information of people who appear to have interests against them. His skill level is Medium at most. He's currently working himself to learn more about how to use the journal.

Weaknesses:
Sougo is quite formidable in terms of physical strength but somehow falls short whenever he fights against people who emotionally affect him. Sougo's strength will always be marred by his emotional attachments. When he fights against an opponent whom he either respects or affects him, Sougo's viciousness will slip and his precision will always be flawed. This is why urrently, he can't beat Kondou Isao and Hijikata Toushirou in a swordfight with their friendship at stake.

Sougo's primary weakness lies in his fragile emotions. In his youth, he has seen how having fragile emotions only made him a weaker fighter. He's never shown himself cry because he knows that if he did, he'll bare his heart out in the open. This is why the man has built a
large wall around himself, scaring many people with his sadistic ways. He only had select people affect him and these people became the only ones that Sougo could truly trust. One of which forcibly broke the walls he has built for himself. Sougo still can't forgive that man to
this date, however, he's come to understand and accept why he would submit to that person.

History:
Sougo's story began in the Badlands Mountains where his mother worked in the mines to excavate some mana crystals. Life was hard in mountains. His mother worked such a dangerous job just to get enough money to pay for her family's necessities. She did not have access to knowledge about mana crystals; hence she was not aware how magic was slowly being transferred into her being. She only became aware of it after she got married and gave birth to her children, Mitsuba and Sougo.

His mother moved from the Badlands Mountains to Solare after she got married to a swordsman who wanted to open a dojo in his hometown. Sougo's father hoped to educate some of the delinquents in their area, teaching them chivalry, honor, and respect. The first few years were difficult for the couple; his mother worked extra jobs in order to help his father maintain the dojo. After some while, his father managed to establish a name in Solare. A year after, their first
child, Mitsuba was born. Three years later, she bore Sougo.

There were two realities that Sougo grew up to: his amazing strength and the sickly women in his family. After doing some research, his parents figured that their unusual traits may have been caused by his mother's exposure to mana crystals. Sougo had the strength that surpassed that of his father's. He started kendo when he was three, after his father gave him a toy bamboo pole only to see it break an hour later. Amused by his son's strength, Sougo's father dedicated some time teaching his son the fundamentals of kendo. By the age of 6, Sougo was already standing by his father's side, giving lessons to the other kids who went to their school. One of the more enthusiastic students was Kondou Isao, a man who would come to be Sougo's first friend.

The women in Sougo's life were sickly. His mother was highly asthmatic for reasons they could not explain at that time apart from her exposure to mana crystals. His sister seemed to have inherited his mother's traits. When he was 9, his mother passed away. It would be one of Sougo's greatest heartaches. It was said that Sougo cried for days, unable to accept his mother's death. His father gave him a lecture on how men should not act weak in their hardest times. "If you feel miserable, take your misery out and do something about it," so his father advised. The next day, Sougo defeated all 150 students of their dojo.

Tragedy struck Okita's life one after the other. When he was 11, his father was asked to be a reserve for the Ivonan army. His father left the dojo in the care of Sougo and a couple of other masters in the dojo, one of whom was Kondou. Sougo's father never returned from the
skirmish yet just like the first time, as he vowed to his father, he only took his misery out. That week, Sougo defeated all 500 of their students 20 times. The dojo had to take a break for a month since most of the students were injured.

Life was different after his parent's deaths, but his sister, Mitsuba, somehow managed to keep Sougo's tempers in balance. Everything went well until Kondou brought home some brat he saw in the streets. Sougo had a hunch that this person would only cause trouble. He was vehemently against taking him in, but the compassionate Kondou believed in this man.

The next few years became difficult for Sougo. This brat Kondou found, Hijikata brought trouble to the dojo, getting them in a few unnecessary fights with some local gangsters. In spite of this, Kondou still had infallible faith in the guy. Sure, the brat worked hard to earn his place in the dojo. He even called Sougo "senpai" out of respect. But Sougo couldn't accept the fact that a newcomer like him was acting like Kondou's best friend. He is Kondou's friend first. Not him.

One day, Sougo ranted all his hatred for Hijikata to his sister. His sister laughed at his story, patting his cheek as she told him, "If you'd only look closer, he could be your best friend, Sougo." Sougo scoffed at his sister's reply. For the next few days he observed his sister's behavior around the dojo, always smiling, laughing, and even getting embarrassingly violent whenever it came to Hijikata. He has never seen his sister like that nor did he understand why she was behaving as such. He could only see that she was happy, which was a
good thing. But Sougo could never seem to place the heavy emotion that he was feeling.

A year after that conversation, when Sougo seemed to have found some semblance of peace with Hijikata, realizing his sister's affections for the man, Mitsuba died, succumbing to the same virus that killed his mother. The dojo mourned for Mitsuba's death. She was like a mother to many of the students in the dojo. To Sougo, she was his dearest sister.

Too young to legally make a decision, Sougo pooled all the masters of the dojo to decide on what they should do next. At that time, the boy felt his wall crumbling. With no family to turn to, Sougo felt completely alone. Kondou helped Sougo's grief by taking the responsibility of selling the dojo and encouraging the entire school to join the military. The decision was based on the philosophy that Sougo's father held. More so, Mitsuba always reminded them to use their strength to protect people. Without a word, everyone packed their bags and moved to Bellcius once the decision was made. It was hard for Sougo to leave his home, but with his comrades and his friend by his side, Sougo carved a new path in his life.

For a good while Sougo stayed in Bellcius, working hard to be at the top of class. He eventually graduated with flying colors but parts ways with his comrades as he gets assigned to a different ship. After years of hard work, Sougo rises up the ranks as a Lieutenant. In lieu of his promotion, he gets assigned to a bigger ship, the Victoria II.
