Canon history:
LinkNon-Speaking Animal Companion(if any): None
Powers(if any): Frowning, depressing people
Personality:
Gloomy. The sort who always seems lost in his own thoughts and memories. He tries to avoid people and keeps to himself. When he does pay attention to the world around him, his attitude is a very pessimistic one. People usually can't believe he once used to be a cheerful, happy-go-lucky guy. Secretly he would love to be able to bring himself to smile again and enjoy life, but a deep feeling of fear keeps him from doing so. As if he believes any new-found happiness he finds for himself could immediately be snatched away from him. He would rather be a lonely sourpuss than be disappointed and hurt again. He also can't stand conflict and has a strong sense of morality. Whenever someone does something he knows is wrong, he wants nothing to do with it. However he doesn't believe that anyone in the world can be completely evil. Misguided or insane, yes, but he doesn't think anyone can be downright evil. At least he greatly hopes no one can be.
Greatest Fear:
Discovering that there are people who can be completely and utterly evil with no hope of redemption.
AU history:
Once a very cheerful clown, Chuckles is now filled with regret. A kind toy who had once been his dearest friend became cold and heartless due to a tragic event, and in his spite he transformed a peaceful daycare center into a prison for toys. Chuckles was able to escape, but for years he was haunted by what had happened and wished he could have stopped his friend from becoming such a monster. Peace was eventually restored to the daycare thanks a group of courageous toys, and it brought great relief to Chuckles. Yet still, despite how horrible the cruel toy had become, Chuckles could never bring himself to hate his former best friend. He often found himself wondering what had become of him. Even though Chuckles was lucky enough to find a new home with a sweet little girl and her toys, he still secretly felt unhappy, and when he received a letter inviting him to the Disney Academy he saw it as a chance start over. A chance to travel someplace far, far away and finally put his past behind him for good.
Year/Position:
Staff; library assistant. Once the students clear out of the academy’s library for the day, he, despite his small size, somehow manages to put every book back on its proper shelf. It’s a tough job, but it at least helps the clown keep his troubled mind occupied for a while.
❦ Character Writing
Third person writing sample:
A strange little clown doll sat on one of the academy library’s shelves quietly, not moving in the slightest. Its face was frozen in a smile and students who passed by couldn’t help smiling themselves upon looking at it. Some would wonder for a moment as to what a toy was even doing there at all before carrying on with their own business.
Once the day came to an end and the sun began to set, the last of the students who were getting in some last minute study time finally grabbed their books and cleared out as the library’s doors were closed. One by one the lights flickered off and the library’s aisles were engulfed in darkness. The only light came from the soft glow of the moonlight streaming through the windows.
Seeing that it was finally alone, the little clown sitting on the shelf came to life. Its happy smile vanished, turning into an intense frown as it gave a heavy sigh. It hopped off its place on the shelf and waddled throughout the empty library. Gruelingly the toy began collecting every book left on the tables and grunted beneath the weight of each one as he placed them into a large stack. Stacking them was actually the easy part. Getting them back on the shelves... that was the part the clown dreaded.
As he worked the toy couldn’t help letting his gaze wander off to the windows, out to the soft moonlight glowing outside. The moon always made the melancholy toy feel wistful. It reminded him of happier times in his life.
After a long reflective moment, the clown shook himself out of it and forced himself to continue working. He knew he had to put those painful memories of his behind him for good, but it was terribly difficult. He had held onto the past for so long. He still had so many regrets. So much he still felt grief over.
As he lifted yet another unbearably heavy book onto the stack, he woefully wondered if these memories would plague him forever.
First person writing sample:
That Bonnie... she’s a sweet kid. I’ll miss her.
But she won’t be too upset over me up and disappearin’ on her. The sheriff and those new toys... they’ll cheer her back up. They’ll make her happy. Good kid like her deserves toys like them.
It’s better this way. Gettin’ too attached is just gonna end up being like before. I just wanna put it all behind me. The rest of Bonnie’s toys... they’d understand. I woulda told ‘em goodbye, but it just woulda been too painful.
Least I know Big Baby’s happy again. He got himself a mama and a papa now. Good ol’ Big Baby. Your ol’ pal Chuckles never forgot about ya. I hope you have a good life.
I hope Daisy's havin' a good life too. She oughta be all grown up now. Probably got married. Maybe had some kids.
...Lotso.
Oh Lotso. What you did ain’t right.
It ain’t right... but I just can’t hate ya. I just can’t.
Don’t keep on being bitter. Let it go, Lotso, please. Wherever you are. If you're even still alive... please. Let it go.
