I realized a couple of days ago that it's been a while since I've updated here in any substantial way. I have been reading my flist regularly, and commented most of the time, but never got around to writing my own entry. So here are a few bullet points to catch you up ( Read more... )

Yes on Fringe and yes on Zombieland. Fringe has great actors and a cool mythology- and the episode "Brown Betty" is unlike anything I've ever seen on TV. Zombieland... well, I don't know where your threshold is, but I don't think it's all that gory. And the leads are great.

OK, good, I'm glad to hear they're both worth a try! Your comment that the episode of Fringe was "unlike anything I've ever seen on TV" is actually the best endorsement you could have given it. The opportunity to see something really strange and innovative is always a draw for me.

For Zombieland, it was mostly that the beginning was super-disgusting, and it seemed clear to me that the rest of the movie would follow that precedent. But then the comedy was so good! I really was conflicted afterwards. But it's on my Netflix list now, so we'll see how I end up feeling.

Strange and innovative is pretty much Fringe's stock and trade. Enjoy!

I feel decently comfortable saying the beginning is the goriest part. But the comedy is constant throughout.

I hope all goes well on your job hunt and you get the perfect position. :)

Speaking of horror, I recently had the opportunity to see the first 15 minutes of the movie Zombieland. Now I'm really conflicted as to whether I want to watch it or not.

Yes. For the love of Peter Petrelli, yes. This is a great movie. The gore is down with a sense of humor so that downplays it a bit, and the character interactions are perfect.

Currently, I am the only person in the entire world who has not seen Series 2 of the BBC Sherlock

You're not alone. I haven't seen it either. /laugh/ Of course... I don't intend to so that does put us in slightly different boats. ;)

Thanks- I hope so too, obviously! This Friday is clearly going to be rather an important day for me.

This turn of phrase needs to be used more often. :P

OK, that makes me feel a bit better about it. I can probably handle that much. I wasn't the one who chose the movie- I was in the common area of the youth hostel where I was staying, and a group came up and started watching it on DVD. I saw up through just after this scene before I had to go, and that character interaction had me doubled over laughing. Maybe that's the key to me really getting into this movie.

Of course... I don't intend to so that does put us in slightly different boats. ;)

True! :) Are you just not interested in Sherlock, or did you watch the first series and not like it? I had no interest in a modern-day version at first, but watched some ( ... )

I'm sure you'll be amazing and they'll have to hire you on the spot. :)

I slipped it into a few real life conversations. My brother called me a moron. /laugh/

Maybe that's the key to me really getting into this movie.

Indeed. Consider it a character study/satire that just happens to involve zombies.

Are you just not interested in Sherlock, or did you watch the first series and not like it?

I watched the first series and... I thought the pilot was strong but, by the third episode, I had virtually lost interest. Sherlock was far too unlikeable; Watson was (yet again) virtually useless; and the plots were a bit too thin. And then I heard that they've turned Irene Adler into a dominatrix and just thought, "How did an opera singer from New Jersey become that? Really?" While I appreciate Martin Freeman's acting, I can't justify continuing with the show. It's just not for me.

My brother called me a moron.

He clearly doesn't understand what it is to love Peter Petrelli.

I heard that they've turned Irene Adler into a dominatrix

Have they? That should be, um, interesting then. I had no idea about that. I don't know what to expect out of these next 3 episodes because I've been staying as clear of spoilers as I can get. (Actually, I think I've managed to stay clear of any information about the show at all. So I really am going in to Series 2 with a blank slate.)

From the shows you mentoned I watch only "The Big Bang Theory" and I'm still loving it. From recs... the show that maes me the most happy at the moment is "Grimm". And I'm desperately waiting for the new season of TV show "Southland" <3333

I wanted to write a comment that would make any kind of sense, but the I saw the part about horror movies and... OMG, I LOVE "ZOMBIELAND" SO VERY MUCH <3333 I love it to pieces. And I still love to re-watch it whenever I can :DDDDD This movie is about zombies, but they're not the main focus and it's mostly about trying to save relationships mostly. I'll always adore this movie! :DDDD

Currently, I am the only person in the entire world who has not seen Series 2 of the BBC Sherlock.
Nope, you're definitely not the only one. Plenty of my friends haven't seen it yet ;D

I've heard good things about both of those shows- good recs! I know Southland is on DVD because it's established, but Grimm is new this year, right? I don't have TV now that I'm living with my parents (they just do TV on DVD), so I didn't get to sample any of the new shows this fall.

I'm pretty much doomed to like Zombieland, aren't I? *laugh*

Haha, that's comforting. Thanks. :P

Yup, "Grimm" is new, but I fall in love with it right from the first episode <3 Since then every single episode makes me so incredibly happy that I can't stop smiling just at the thought of this show! :D
Out of about hundred shows I've seen, "Southland" still makes it to my Top 5 :DDDD

Oh, it's hard to dislike this movie, really. Even my friends who are not in this genre loved it, because of the characters!

;D *hugs*

Glad to know that your internship is going well! I have yet to watch season 2 of Sherlock, but now that I am back in the States that is one of my first priorities. ;-) Zombieland is hilarious. I highly recommend it. Although gore does not bother me in the least, so I cannot be a good judge of that for you.

Yay being back in the US! :) And Zombieland is now on my Netflix list. I'll manage to cope with the gore. My theory with violence is that I don't mind it at all if there's something else that's really good in there. I've been assured multiple times now that the comedy will more than make up for the goriness, so I feel much more confident watching it now. :D

If you want to see my town and some other stuff you should watch Zombieland.

I have been watching Sherlock and I don't want to spoil you, but there were a lot of emotions.

Haha, was it filmed in Georgia? Or is your town just naturally overrun with zombies? ;)

All I've seen from people's posts on Sherlock (before they go into lj cuts with spoilers) is a ton of emotions. I can tell it's going to be intense. (Of course, that means now I can't wait to see it.)

Yeah it was filmed in Georgia. It's the new thing now.

It was beautiful. I mean visually it's always lovely, but it was really touching.
