Summary: Kim Jae Joong contemplates whether closeness is a good thing or a bad thing
Closeness.
When you’ve lived together for almost a decade, there’s no doubt that you’re going to be close to the people whom you live with. And when you’re close, you tend to share. You share your things from clothes to food, your personal space, your experiences, your soul, your love and sometimes, believe it or not… illnesses.
As Kim Jae Joong was lying down on the makeshift bed made of duvets, he contemplated whether closeness was a good thing or a bad thing.
Why in the world would the lead singer of DBSK be thinking about closeness and why is he on a makeshift bed instead of his own bed…?
Let’s start from the beginning.
Park Yoo Chun (God bless the guy), had a tendency to pick up all sort of illnesses every now and then. And being the stubborn guy that he was, he would refuse to talk any medication till it either goes away or it worsens. So, in the mean time, while waiting for the illness to make itself scarce or make itself very well known, Yoo Chun would effectively infect the other members till one by one all of them get the disease. And so, this time round the top baritone had successfully brought the baby of the group and his own lover down with him.
After coming back from a tiring dance practice session, the three men were all sporting the same look; red cheeks, watery eyes and dry cracked lips. All of them had a low grade fever that was slowly escalating and so Yunho and Jae Joong quickly helped them to clean up and tuck them into bed. All of them fell into the land of sleep in a heap of sore and tired limbs. Jae Joong made sure everything was okay before going back into his and Yunho’s room.
As he stood under the warm water, Jae Joong was washed with a sense of relief that Yunho hadn’t contract the disease that was spreading because he was reminded of the time that Yunho collapsed during his filming of HTTG. He really didn’t want his lover to be sent to the hospital again… that young man had gone to the hospital too many times for Jae Joong’s liking.
With that feeling still lingering before going to bed, Jae Joong kissed Yunho senseless and made sure the love of his life wasn’t going anywhere by wrapping his hands around the taller man’s waist and settling his head on the broad chest. Yunho decided to make the most of it and wrapped his long arms around the smaller man’s frame and together they fell into blissful sleep.
Or so they thought.
Around one in the morning, Yunho was roused from his sleep. His logic told him that he should open his eyes and find out what woke him but his sleepy mind told him not to. So to satisfy both his logic and his sleepy mind, Yunho opened his eyes just a crack and saw that his angelic lover was still in the same position when they fell asleep. As Yunho fidgeted, Jae Joong tightened his grip on Yunho’s waist and burrowed his head deeper into the leader’s chest. A silly smile crept its way on the dancer’s face and he surreptitiously planted a kiss on top of the eldest’s head.
A sudden movement on his left and an extremely cold pair of hands clutching on his arm had Yunho almost jumping out of his skin. “Jeez! Junsu! You scared the living daylights out of me. What’s wrong?” Yunho asked as he tried to make himself and Junsu more comfortable.
“Hyung, my head hurts!” Junsu whined, his voice almost inaudible.
Yunho twisted in the bed and managed to touch Junsu’s forehead. “Your fever’s quite high Junsu. Do you want me to get you some medicine?”
Junsu merely gave a small shake of his head and proceeded to cuddle closer to Yunho. Yunho gently patted Junsu’s leg, trying to soothe the younger man. And just like an ‘Appa’, he made sure Junsu was covered by blanket and patted the sick man to sleep.
Trying to go back to sleep wasn’t as easy as the leader thought it would be. But at last he was about to go to dream land when the click of the door instantly alerted his other senses. Refusing to open his eyes this time, his ears decided to supply the answer to his curiosity. He heard the shuffling of feet coming closer to his bed but on his sleeping lover’s side. The next thing he knew, Jae Joong was pressed further onto him and the bed dipped under the weight of another body. Jae Joong was instantly awake; eyes and face showing his confusion. When he found the source that made him wake, the band ‘Umma’ groaned.
“Yoo Chun ah, what are you doing on my bed? It’s…” Jae Joong snuck a peek at the digital clock next to him. “It’s one twenty-three a.m. go back to your room, Yoo Chun ah.”
“Hyung, my tummy hurts.” Yoo Chun said as if he hadn’t heard what Jae Joong said a while ago.
Jae Joong gave a sigh and pulled his soul mate closer and gently rubbed Yoo Chun’s tummy. Jae Joong chose that moment to kiss Yunho’s neck. “Thank God we have a king sized bed.” Jae Joong whispered somewhat gratefully and Yunho merely gave a silent chuckle.
Again, both men were just about to doze off when a shake on their shoulders had them wide awake. They woke up to find themselves looking at a magnae who was on the verge of tears, holding onto his pillow for dear life.
“Hyung… my head and tummy hurts and I think I’m going to be sick.” Chang Min said in an extremely small voice. Both the ‘parents’ could hear the quiver in the magnae’s voice and they both were on high alert.
“That’s it. Let’s visit the hwajangshil, okay Minnie.” Jae Joong said as he peeled Yoo Chun from his side and gingerly directed his ‘baby’ out of the room.
Yunho groaned and inwardly cursed the sickness for making his family sick. Thankfully the love of his life didn’t catch it. Yunho carefully left Junsu and Yoo Chun on the bed and went to get all the duvets, blankets, and pillows and push away all the furniture so he was left with a large space in the hall. He set out to make a makeshift bed big enough for the five of them and some. Satisfied with his work, Yunho went about carrying the two almost unconscious men out into the hall.
“Yunnie!”
“Ye!”
Laying Junsu gently on the duvet, he went to the toilet to assist Jae Joong. Both Jae Joong and Chang Min were on the floor, with Jae Joong wiping Chang Min’s face with a wet towel.
“Yunnie, could you help him up?” Jae Joong asked and without a moment’s hesitation Yunho slowly hauled the youngest up and half dragged him to the middle of the ‘bed’.
“I think we should give the doctor a call. This can’t go on.” Yunho said as they stood looking at their ‘children’.
“I agree. And I don’t want to risk both of us getting it too.”
And an hour later, the doctor had come with up with the verdict that the three boys had stomach flu and gave three each a shot. That’s where Jae Joong and Yunho found themselves after the doctor left, Junsu on Yunho’s left, Yunho himself, Chang Min in the middle, Jae Joong and Yoo Chun. The three boys had at last fallen into blissful sleep.
“Joongie, what are you thinking about?” Yunho asked when he saw the thoughtful look his Boo Jae was donning.
“Whether closeness is a good thing or a bad thing.” Jae Joong answered absently.
“Well, it’s both good and bad I guess. Most of the time it’s good. I’m glad that you didn’t catch the flu bug and you’re so close to me right now coz’ if not I won’t be able to do this.” Yunho leaned in closer and captured his lover’s lips in a passionate kiss.
So what does Kim Jae Joong think about closeness now?
It’s damn good.
