Regarding Ohayocon 2011

Since this is a topic that has come up lately and is one in which I, myself, was involved, I wished to add in my subjective opinion and my support to other records of incidence.

For full and supplementary details, please visit Chibik3r0's report and Sewing is Half the Battle's report.I was on the Cosplay Staff at Ohayocon in 2010 ( Read more... )

Read the two links you posted earlier today, as well as Amanda's thoughts on the matter, and now with you also weighing in on it, I have to say that my opinion of Ohayocon has been severely damaged. I've never been to it, but suffice to say that I don't really plan on going any time soon, unless things are reported to get better. I heard really awful things about the AA too last year.

Yeah, I heard about the AA stuff, too, from more than one source. And the Dealer's Room is apparently some big exclusive thing, too, where you can only get in if you've been in before, and adding that to the fact that its a smaller dealer's room this year...

Heck.

I don't know.

It might be fine, but I'm not taking my chances.

HMMM. I was looking forward to attending, and in some ways I still am, but perhaps I'll go sans badge this time around. It's not like I need it for any events, anyway!

Dude, if you do go, you'll have to give me a report on what goes down. Or, at least, how your con experience is.

It's hard to say no to Ohayocon. I've always gone for the awesome meet-ups with folks...

But considering how far away you live from me, I should probably take the money I'm saving from not attending and just take you out to dinner. ^.^

Ha! Yes, we can make that happen.

Chances are I'll be there, but far away from the shenanigans (read: nowhere close to the masquerade). Though if things go down in hellish ways, maybe The Masquerade Avenger will break through security with emergency chairs and water and save some lives. I have my suit. It'll make me look official enough.

*nodding* Free badges for volunteer work and staff work make a ton of sense to me.

Forcing it on people is a little less cool.

I'm kind of curious to see how it turns out, but you hit the nail on the head: I don't want to be related to it if it doesn't go well.

Wait, isn't Ohayocon the convention we both almost died in an ice storm together while going to and from all those years ago? Over the years I've been tempted to re-add it to my yearly convention cycle but never had the time. From these last few reports I've been hearing I doubt I'll ever want to return. I'm not even much of a cosplayer at all but I still feel angry over the deplorable way you were treated. That's just down right disgraceful on a multitude of levels.
