I was shocked to find this morning a very dead, partially chewed-up mouse on my living room floor. With two cats sitting nearby, looking enormously pleased with themselves.

While I'm gratified to know that our cats are such awesome (and cute) killing machines, the question as yet remains:

How the fuck did it get into our apartment!?

It has nothing to do with how clean your home is - you keep a very clean home!!! It has everything to do with the fact that you live on the ground floor of your building, you have a grassy area nearby that the mice live in and its getting colder out - the mice are seeking nice places that are warm for the winter.

If your cats left the mouse in the middle of the room, they are presenting it to you as an offering - they love you!!! :)

Set some sticky traps or regular traps up in places the cats cant get to them.

I'm still shocked. We've never had mice here before - still want to know how it got IN. Ugh. So glad our cats are such good hunters!

this, exactly. you're a basement 'garden level' apt, it just happens. i've had mice in super clean places because of this. one is nothing much to worry about - just keep your eye open for mouse poop and multiplying!

It was bad enough when I saw silverfish this summer - OMG, they freaked me the fuck out! ((shudders)) I bought some good pesticide online and it seemed to work. Crap, now mice??

It's not you! You're house is always so very, very clean. Is there construction going on by your house? Sometimes when the dig places up near you it distrubs the mice/rats living there and they make their way into the next best thing.... your house.

At least you know your cats will take care of them when they do enter!
