Since diving face-first into Transfandom approximately a year ago, I have found one thing, and one thing only, that made me go 'Whut the FUCK?' This thing would be the large amount of pictures/fics of Optimus Prime (usually G1) with a happy baby bumpy belly. (Don't believe me? There's a frocking
dA club dedicated to it.)
I can dig stickyfic (to a degree, some of the ones that go overboard on the lubricant descriptions make me want to gag). I can ish-dig the idea that they actually reproduce in even a semi-sexual manner (it makes the engineer in me go 'MACHINES HAVE NO WOMB', but there's ways around that Sparkbabies, whut?)
But I really don't quite get why it's almost always Optimus. I mean, bad-ass is in the guy's contract. Yeah, he's the father-figure of a whole fucking generation, but, still. Optimus Prime, preggers? Agh.
I also don't get why it's always a happy baby bumpy belly (and usually Megatron's fault, lawl) This REALLY makes the engineer!Sae foam at the mouth. Why? Actually, don't tell me why, I'd rather not know.
So, Sae now has a disgruntled engineer!headvoice. And when Sae's headvoices get disgruntled, they try to mash out that which is causing their discomfort, and force it into a form they can accept.
This results in way-too-tired Sae writing AND drawing a giant robot 'pregnancy' that she thinks is more plausible than happy baby bumpy belly robots.
Also, for the record, it's canon that they can reproduce by budding (G1)

Ratchet had explained most of the details to them.
New Cybertronian's were usually built as empty shells, then given a Spark via the AllSpark. But, they could also be 'birthed' - a Cybertronian would initiate a sequence within their body, and they would effectively bud a sparkling.
The process was painful, exhausting, and highly dangerous, hence why there had been no recorded birthings on Cybertron in millions of vorns. A small mech like Bumblebee or Jazz simply would not survive, too much of their mass lost to the ravenous sparkling. Ratchet, with his redundant systems, would survive the mass loss, but most mechs his size lacked the pump strength required to keep both a mech and a sparkling alive. Ironhide's size category was the first where the chance of life for both overreached the chance of death enough for the risk to be worth it, and even then, it took three months of pain, immobility, and highly enriched energon to form a sparkling.
Of course, Optimus Prime would not allow one of those under his command to undergo such a risk, not if he himself stood a better chance of surviving.
The great Autobot was sitting on the floor of the huge area where the AllSpark had once rested, his arms propped up on metal frames to either side, for his own comfort. His chest plating was open, and when the process had started six weeks ago, his Spark casing had been terribly exposed to any manner of attack, and security around the Hoover Dam was at near-strangling levels to protect him.
Now, however, the view of his Spark chamber was obscured by a tiny, spindly form - a sparkling. It's head and body were almost formed, thin wires and tubes running from it to Optimus in a tangle, and if one watched long enough, they could see gossamer wisps of metal slowly weaving together to form delicate limbs.
Optimus himself rarely moved anymore, too afraid of hurting the sparkling, too pained to make the effort to be that careful. He reclined against rock and metal like an ancient king in repose, the first true child of Cybertron born on Earth nestled in his chest.
Sam wasn't sure he could understand why Optimus put himself through this. There were Autobots still in the universe, and more arrived every year, and any one of those who could take on the efforts of creating new sparklings would.
The sparkling stirred, and gave a weak little cry, a frail noise that didn't even echo off of the chamber walls. Optimus moved, so very, very slowly, bringing one great hand up to touch the sparkling, a comforting caress along it's face. The sparkling nudged back, almost nuzzling the digit, and fell silent.
Then again, some things didn't need understanding.
