Rock slipped in the front door of his home as quietly as he could so as to not wake his family. He crept through the living room and had nearly reached the stairs when he heard someone clear their throat. With a cringe he turned to find Blues and Roll sitting on the couch, watching.

"Ah, hi guys." Rock said sheepishly. "Nice morning, ain't it?"

"Ok, Rock." Blues said, "Spill. Who was it?"

Rock frowned. "Did you wait up all night just to ask me that?" he asked.

"Yes." Blues replied. "I might want to thank them for dinner."

Rock felt his cheeks heat up. "Well, ah, he, ah, he asked me not to tell you all his real name." He said lamely. "'Cause he said the last thing we needed was an over-protective big brother threatening him with castration."

"Oh, so they're a he?" Roll asked. Rock flushed deeper and nodded. "Is he a human?"

Rock bit his lip. "He- he is a biroid. I won't say who his creator is."

Blues frowned. "I don't like it when people are more secretive than me." He stated flatly.

"Please, Blues." Rock pleaded. "I-he really cares for me. If he wants you to know his name, I'll tell you. But he asked me not to tell, so I won't."

"How do you know he 'really cares' for you?" Blues asked skeptically.

"I just do."

Blues' frown deepened. He knew that Rock was an excellent judge of character, but it still bugged and worried him that he didn't know who this guy was. "Ok, Rock." He said finally. "I won't pry too much. But I want you to be careful, especially when I'm away from home again. Ok?" Rock nodded. "Good. How late were you up last night?"

"To about one-thirty." Rock replied without thinking.

"And seeing how you left us about eight o'clock . . ." Blues grinned slyly. "This guy must really be something else!"

"Blues!" Roll exclaimed, looking scandalized. Rock turned absolutely scarlet.

Rock hummed as he made his bed. It had been a month since that first night with Forte. Blues had stopped trying to trick the name out of him after Roll let into him with a broom. Rock appreciated Blues' concern, but the eldest Light bot was very clever and had almost got the name from Rock a number of times. At least once a week since then, Rock had found a small note or a rose next to his bed when he awoke. The March wind whistled by outside his window, making a high, eerie sound as it whipped through the still-leafless trees. Still humming, he went down to breakfast.

When he came back up to his room, a note sat on his bed table. Rock picked it up and read:

Come back to the hotel tonight.

I'll be waiting, sweet one.

Rock's artificial heart skipped a beat. Forte had just been here, within the past twenty minutes. And he wanted to meet him tonight. Rock left his room to find Dr. Light.

He found the Dr. in his lab, putting some touches on a complex, delicate- looking device. "Um, Dad?" Rock asked hesitantly.

"Yes Rock?"

"Well, um, ah, my, um, admirer-friend, ah, he wanted to meet me tonight. Is that ok?" Rock stuttered out, twisting his hands.

Dr. Light put down his tool and folded his hands together on the table top. "Sit down, Rock." He said. "Do you know what my father did and most other human fathers do when their children begin to go on dates?" Rock shook his head. "They sit their kids down and tell their kids to not drink alcohol, not do drugs and not have sex." Rock blinked. "Well, I'm not going to do that. Why? Because drugs and alcohol have little to no effect on you, so you won't use them anyway. And Blues told me that you most likely did sleep with this person on Valentine's day, (Rock flushed) so I'm a bit late for that. And you wouldn't have to deal with most of the consequences that humans must deal with anyway. But I will tell you that for God's sake, be careful. The last thing I want is to see you hurt in some way."

Rock nodded and, on impulse, he stood and hugged Dr. Light. "Thanks, Dad." He said.

Dr. Light hugged his younger son back. "You're welcome, Rock." He said. "Just don't get hurt." Rock nodded again and left.

A few hours later Rock stood in front of the old hotel, watching for any sign of movement within. After a few moments, he went inside and headed up to the room they had shared before. The room was much the same, fewer candles, fewer roses, but the same bed and chair. Rock took off his coat and looked around, trying to find Forte. Suddenly a hand trailed down the back of his neck. He twirled around, not seeing anyone. Again fingers brushed his neck. He turned in time to see a shadowy shape escape through the door and down the hall. He gave chase.

For long minutes, Forte was a shadowy, half-laughing shape just ahead of him or a quick caress to the neck or cheeks. Once Rock was goosed gently on his behind, making him jump two feet in the air and Forte laugh. Now they were running down the hall again, Rock vainly trying to catch the shadow- shape before him. As they approached their room, Rock got an idea. His armor briefly flashed over his clothes and he dashed forward, hit the wall opposite their door and rebounded, crashing into Forte and sending them tumbling into their room.

The two biroids rolled across the floor and ended at the far wall with Rock sitting on Forte's stomach, his armor gone. "Tag, you're it." Rock said with an innocent smile.

"Cheater." Forte replied. He fixed Rock with a half-glare. "Cheaters never prosper."

"No?"

"Nope." Forte reached up and pulled Rocks' head to his own, their lips meeting passionately.

"Do you have to leave?" Rock asked, standing before his brother in the early spring sunshine.

Blues nodded. "I'll be back sometime in the summer." He said, adjusting his visor. "But I feel I've been here long enough."

Rock sighed and hugged his brother, feeling the elders armored arms wrap around him. "Be careful." He murmured into Blues' shoulder.

"Only if you will." Blues replied, giving Rock one last squeeze and letting go. Rock nodded as Blues turned and walked away. Rock sighed. He always hated it when Blues left. With a heavy heart he turned and went back in the house and to his room. Two weeks had passed, with no word from Forte. Until now. The note sitting on his table said:

Meet me tonight and perhaps I can ease your loneliness

Spring passed into summer. Every two or three weeks Rock met with Forte in the old hotel. Each time it was different and each time it was wonderful.

Rock was busily frowning at a new note from Forte. Instead of 'meet me at the hotel' all it had were a set of coordinates. Rock finally decided that Forte must want to try something a bit different so near sundown he teleported to the place.

When he re-formed, Rock was standing in a grassy field far from any cities. He looked around and didn't see anything. Deciding he had read the note wrong, he prepared to teleport back home, but was stopped by the arms that wrapped around him from behind.

"You weren't going to leave without dinner, were you?" asked a voice in his ear.

Rock turned in the circle of Forte's arms. "Dinner?" he asked.

Forte kissed the tip of Rock's nose. "It's not much." He admitted. "But it's something." He led Rock to a blanket and basket hidden from immediate view by a low hill. They sat down and Forte took sandwiches from the basket, followed by orange slices and a thermos of lemonade. Lastly Forte almost shyly pulled out a bottle of sweet wine.

Rock stared for a moment. Forte had made his favorite types of sandwiches. He looked back up at Forte and burst into giggles. Forte was trying - and failing - to pull the cork from the wine. Growling slightly, he began to tug on it with his teeth.

"No, don't!" Rock cried out, still giggling. Forte raised a brow at him, the cork still between his teeth. Rock's laughs increased at the funny sight. "I-it'll go down your throat if you do it like that." He finally managed to get out. "Hand it here and get a glass." Forte shrugged and handed the bottle over and rummaged through the basket until he found a pair of matching Tuff-crystal wine glasses. "Like this." Rock said, twisting the cork back and forth. After a moment it shot off across the field. Forte held up one glass to catch the wine as it bubbled out. "Now that would've hurt your throat."

Forte handed one glass to Rock and they toasted lightly. Again Rock looked at the spread of food. "How do you know?" he asked.

"Know what?"

"All of my favorites, everything I like, all of it."

"Well," Forte said, setting down his glass. "I've been watching you since about November. At first it was so I could learn enough about you to kill you, but that changed. I just started watching for the hell of it, then because I couldn't get enough of seeing you." He blushed slightly. "Guess that makes me a stalker."

Rock snorted. "No, a stalker would have left dead rats in my bed." Forte choked on his wine.

Soon the food was gone. Forte packed the orange peels and lemonade back into the basket. They sat next to each other, sipping slowly at the wine and watching the last bit of the sunset. Forte wrapped his arm around Rock and pulled the smaller bot closer. Rock sighed and leaned against his lover. Their lips touched lightly, then firmer. They moved, shifted, trying to get more of each other. Soft moans floated over the field. The emerging stars above were the only witnesses to their lovemaking- except for a pair on sullenly staring eyes that neither biroid noticed.

Two figures were wrapped in a blanket and laying on their backs. The smaller lay against the taller, his head pillowed on his shoulder. Rock sighed and snuggled closer to Forte as they watched the stars above. He was perfectly content to stay here-

"Forever." He whispered softly, finishing the thought aloud.

"What?" Forte asked.

"I just wish we could stay like this forever." Rock said.

Forte let out a sigh. "So do I." He said quietly. "I really do. But there is a chance that either Wily or your brother will find out about us. If that happens, the chances of us seeing each other again are slim to nil." Rock looked at him with worried eyes. "So until that happens, every time I see you, I'm treating it as if it were our last." He finished softly. Rock wrapped both arms around his waist and hugged him tight. Forte returned the hug, burying his face into Rock's hair and breathing in deeply. They stayed like that until they fell asleep, unmindful of anything else.
