Denver in General

There is more to a city then Art and Food. Not much more, but more. General Denverian impressions below:

Liked the joint. I think I would actually put it on my list of places I would live instead of DC if I didn't love y'all so much (the other such place being San Fran). Weather was beautiful if somewhat varied (beware random storms), people were decently cosmopolitan, with a very healthy smattering of freaks, and on the whole were very friendly. Specifically:

Natural Beauty - Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, and let me say again goregous. I drove out today to Boulder and beyond aiming towards Rocky Mountain National Park (I turned back when the weather soured) and the mountains and trees and little brooks are just breath-taking.

People - highly, highly friendly and polite. Only met a couple of jerks (see nightlife below) - other than that, all good. As an appeal to you men out there, I noticed a grotesque imbalance between the number of pretty ladies and the number of good-looking men in Denver - many cute little sassy cowgirls with pot-bellied spooky boyfriends. Odd that.

City itself - nice skyline with just the right mix of bums and liquor stores. I approve. Some scary parts - but not near so scary as Anacostia, Baltimore, etc. - and I did make it into the bad part of town a couple of times.

Nightlife - my own experience here was bad, but I am going to chalk it up to going to the wrong club. I went to a joint called Club Vinyl, which I hoped would be right on because it had an Industrial night on Sundays - but it turned out to be the worst pretty-person club I think I have ever been too (worse then Clarendon Ballroom - which is saying something). Much standing around and posing, very little dancing. They were even filming the Real World Denver upstairs for fuck-sake. Needless to say, some people were polite, but a couple were pretty rude and snotty, so I got my dance on and left when I got tired calling it a pretty early evening.

So - that is my sparkling endorsement of Denver and Boulder. GO! Visit! You'll like!
