Uhm - Yeah - Busy

Jan 02, 2008 09:58

So, I just sent out a pair of e-mails explaining the ridiculous over-stuffed schedule that I signed up for - and rather than continuing to do that one-by-one - I thought I would make a more global "I am going to socially disintegrate soon" announcement using the Interweb. Starting January 22nd, I will be returning to college to get my Masters in ( Read more... )

Uh, good luck?

Let us know if you can sneak in the occasional dinner or something, presuming your schedule allows time for food.

See my response to Ms. Betty below - I will make time for seeing important folks - but general happy hours and game nights and parties might need to be a bit more seldom. I am sure we will find time to hang-out - I will just need to juggle a lot.

Well, it's been 1.67 years since the last "I'm socially disentegrating" post, so I guess it's about due. ;)

Only if I get a "B" - and the limit is $5K/yr if I don't get a special permission - which I am hoping to get.

I will make every attempt - I have about 1.5 blocks (each weekend day couting for 2, and each weeknight counting for 1) free/week when the new schedule starts up. Things like the dinners with Lenore, you and the kids will take precedence over happy-hours and parties. Also - there is always lunches and the games...

I have one of those so I know exactly what your about do to... it is part of an MBA right? Where are you taking it from? Have you found that your career needed it?

No - not part of an MBA. It is a generalist degree in all things IT. Electives range from Artificial Intelligence to Data Mining to Database Design and Implementation. The foundation courses include Java Programming, Logic and Discrete design and Computer Organization. It is effectively a Masters in Computer Stuff for people without an Engineering, Math or CS background. Although I am taking it at Mason, and she took it at Hopkins - it is actually the same Master's program that the Girlie took.

My career needs a Masters Degree. At this point, my plan is to go Gov - so this could mean the difference between a 14/15 Spot and a 13 spot. What Masters Degree is at least somewhat irrelevant - but I will probably end up doing IT management, so an IT degree would be a good idea. I considered Human Factors - but it is a little too squishy for me at Mason. I am not really into getting an MBA - although that would be another option.

I hope you're not waiting on seeing true AI any time soon... or even relatively close to anywhere near soon. ;)

True AI - no. Learning algorythms and expert systems - yes. I think you are going to see an upsurge in their use in the next handful of years - and I can see real application in my area of expertise.
