when practical jokes go bad

While Abby was on a three-week trip with a friend to West Virginia, Anna, Adam, Rachel's daughter Brooke and some other kids in the neighborhood have been going back and forth between my house and Rachel's house to ding-dong-ditch-with-a-twist. Instead of ringing the doorbell and running, they pound on the doors and windows and run. It is good ( Read more... )

The police were a bit pissed. "This is very serious. We rushed over here at high speed."

So we decided no more ding-dong-ditch-with-a-twist.

It's funny now, but last night I thought Rachel and I were going to jail. I understand why the police were upset, though.

Oh no! But aww, the police should have had a better sense of humor.

Also, I love that you are the kind of mom who has fun with her kids like that.

The first time it happened, Rachel's daughter and two of the kids' friends did it to me. I was in the living room and it startled the heck out of me. I called Rachel to see if it was the kids or some Sinister Being Trying to Murder Me. She started laughing and said they were hiding around the house. So I went outside and shouted, "Whoever you are, I've called the police and they are their way, so give yourself up."

Startled them right back. :D

Of course, Abby is telling everyone someone tried to break into the house.

Bless her heart. Freaky and funny at the same time!

That kind of thing would bring out the shotgun here. It's a tactic that has been used in this area over the past 6 months or so to lure people to open the door, and then 3 or 4 thugs bust into the house. Well...it happened to us. Dog went nuts, which was our first clue that it was serious. Um, see third sentence. So, yeah, we scared them off. 0_o

As for the cops...I'm not impressed with their attitude. I should probably just leave it at that.

Abby really did think someone was trying to break into the house. She said just before that, a truck pulled into the driveway, so when the pounding started, she freaked out and called 911.

I don't have a gun but there are times I think I'd feel safer. But then again, I'd be the person who fumbled it and made things worse.

Although I AM a good shot....

Now go watch the movie The Strangers, if you don't mind scary.
