So I decided not to go to uni today as surely I can't be expected to go back full-time immediately after having had a month off, that would be crazy, and also I was feeling sorry for myself as my skin has gone mental with sunburn, hives, eczema, acne, etc ( Read more... )

At least you are trying to avoid skin cancer other than those silly creatures I read about in the paper the other day - running off to top up their tans on sunbeds every two weeks. I bet they will be the first ones to wail, "But nobody told me!" and try to sue someone.

I've never shared a flat or house with anyone. Just couldn't handle it. I would really like a bigger place than a bachelor flat but can't afford the rent by myself, unless I want to live out in the 'burbs.

Ugh, I know. One of the girls I was sitting in the sun with actually said, "I have to work on my tan before I go on holiday." I couldn't believe it. I told her about all the people I know suffering skin cancer, and showed her my sunburn the next day. Just because her skin isn't actually turning red doesn't mean it's not being damaged! I still don't understand how people can be so ignorant after so many years and many millions of dollars in skin protection advertising. Who doesn't remember "slip, slop, slap"?!

Aside from the mother issue, this place has been really good. My last place wasn't. It all depends on the size of the place and the mix of people, and it's really difficult to find a perfect balance, so much so that I don't blame you for taking the option to live alone. Unless you get along REALLY well, housemates are not worth the strange habits and lackadaisical cleaning arrangements.

She's almost gone, but I keep noticing things that she has put away or interfered with somehow. Why is the toaster under the kitchen sink, huh? UNNECESSARY.

It sounds like Brisbane was really hot today as everyone on Facebook was talking about it. :(

Marra, you don't sound crazy or antisocial. You've been very patient throughout all this and it must be frustrating when you haven't even been given a definite date for it all to end.

Did I LOL at the write-up, though? Hell, yes. :D

You certainly do not need sunburn on top of having your space invaded. Or at all. Having had a couple of swims at Bondi recently I was amazed at how evidently obsessed by tanning the people were. Will they die of skin cancer or lung cancer, I wonder?
The mother is probably doing her best not to be a pest, but some of us really really need our own space. Solitude is good.

I do sympathise with her as her position would be a nightmare for me. I know it hasn't been ideal for any of us. Still, at least it seems to be over now.
