Knitting

I only took up knitting about a year ago, and am very much a novice. I found it soothing, especially when combined with a period drama on the ABC on Sunday nights. But knitting was one of the activities I lost interest in when my depression really set in, and my attempts to get back to it have been marred by frustration at how difficult I've since ( Read more... )

Aww... my mother knits like a MOFO. Well she used to and I have the mini-sweaters to prove it. :P

I'm not crafty at all either - Hell - I still draw stick figures. Somehow, I know you WILL master knitting. Even if it kills you. <3

Ha! 'Even if it kills me' was my original ending to the post. Trufax. I took it out because I thought it was a little melodramatic. BUT IT'S TRUE. <3333

Also, last night I successfully did the increases for this project, so take that, knitting! I WIN.

Knitting will only become relevant to me after the Zombie Apocalypse. Which is to say, never. I don't have the patience. My mom knits like a fiend. Even after all her years of knitting, she still finds it frustrating. ;) I feel the same way about guitar. It's hard, bb. We will prevail!

Why can't we just be naturally good at everything that we want?! IT'S NOT FAIR.

You GO girl. I'm back into knitting as well (It's an awesome winter thing and soon I am going to try my hand at SOCKS) and I've been doing it most winters for the past few years but my things still have the odd hole and bits of weirdness scattered through them. Just call it 'personality' or say it's a design feature.

Good luck!

Oh, you sound so talented! I'm terrified of socks. They seem like they should be easy but then you have to use four needles?! What is up with that?

Four needles are HARD but I made some arm warmers last year and sort of more or less got the hang of them, they're fiddly bastards though. Theres a book in the library called Knitting Vintage Socks and it excites me.

Go for it. The memory needs prodding, but is tucked away there somewhere. Or I can recommend crochet, but knitting makes nice things. Both are very good for stress, boredom, hanging around, TV watching, and for satisfying some primaeval urges.

Could never really knit or crochet but I used to like doing embroidery. Very calming and meditative. *g*

That does sound lovely. One of my grandmothers can do all kinds of complicated needlecrafts, but I did not inherit her genes. :(
