How can I check where an IP address is located?

I had an anonymous poster today. I think I know who it is, but I'd like a little confirmation.

EDIT: Okay, just confirmed it was from the area I thought it was from. Thank you!

Two potentially useful tools are nslookup (which will lookup the domain name associated with the IP address, if any) and traceroute/tracert/mtr (which will plot the network path to that IP). There are online versions of both nslookup and traceroute. I don't have one I'd recommend, since I can do either from a Linux command line, but you can probably find one or more of each that would be useful.

You and your silly Linux. All flexible and stuff. Got it figured out now, thank you.

Here is one way, it's not super accurate, it basically gets you down to the city. Beyond that requires help from the ISP usually.

Pretty much all I needed was the city. Well, actually all I really needed was the state. Thank you for the help!
