My First Norwescon (Or How I Spent The Weekend Drunk And Horny)

First of all, I really must say that I love the Merchants of Deva. Each and every one of them is a wonderful and quirky person and I can think of no other group of people with whom I would enjoy being so stressed out and crazy. Thank you all for letting me help this year!

Thursday was mostly traveling down and transporting STUFF. We got princess parking and made sure we kept it all weekend. There was a special request for some of the green drink so once that was made, I started on the drinking. Went running around the hotel with retcon and ran into theda and balzacq in the halls. We hit the Deva rooms for a refresher and conversation before hitting the room parties and the dance. It was a nice calm before the action. Then there was wandering and kissing and boobies, oh my! I enjoyed the dance because blackmaru was working it and he was trying to kill me. That was the only night I really had a chance to hit the other room parties, though, so I got to experience them without the crushing mobs or special events.

Friday was another trip for more STUFF which was great because I had a chance to actually talk to helix90. He's one of those that will quite often be in the same location (generally the Merc) and we have several friends in common, but we've never had a reason to talk to each other. Also got a chance to work with crazedcamel when helping to make the drinks for the party. 66 gallons of booze. Fortunately there was some orange stuff and some blue stuff extras so the Devas and friends could partake. Then endorphan made my day by being there. Went two nights and a day without seeing him...oh woe is me! We roamed and he got to introduce me to some of the people he's known for X number of years where X=more than anyone wants to admit. That evening we hit Biohazard for about 10 minutes before deciding the Deva room was far more interesting. Don't even know how late I was up...I was having too much fun!

Saturday was an attempt to recover from too much alcohol and not enough food or sleep for two days before it was time to get the party set up. That part went very well and I know I'm not the only one who was amazed. I had been planning that during the party I would help with door, balcony watch, bartending, whatever needed to be done...but then I started tweaking. Lots of input and many peoples and by the time the party was about to start I was starting to panic. Then saheeb138 explained about the Bon Vivant/Party Fluffer position. Drink and wander around the party making sure everyone is having fun. Find the singletons and engage them. Smile and talk and dance and encourage other people to do the same. It was perfect for me because it was a way for me to drink and calm down yet still work. The party went smoothly and by the time it was over (and damn you retcon for trying to kill me at the end of the night...I shouldn't have been dancing that much!) I was ready to collapse yet too wound up still. There was 6 of us in the bed that night (we pushed the two queens together) and there was laughter and talking and complaints about the light coming in through the window.

Sunday was bad for me. I crashed hard. We woke up and tore down the party and part way through I lost control. icebluenothing was my saviour. He gave me food and I was able to function again. It was the first time that lack of food caused me to loose control of my body and my emotions so badly. But then I was up again and capable of helping...although in a limited way. Later I lost it again when my van refused to start. Apparently the battery needs to be replaced and when we left the doors open for several hours while loading the dome lights drained enough of the charge that we couldn't start it. Yay for AAA.

There's so much I'm missing in here but at this point I don't think I could even remember it all. Many highs and many lows although the lows were mostly physical reactions. Looking forward to next year and I know now what I'll need to do to prevent some of those lows. Hopefully next year I'll actually have the money to enjoy other aspects of the con.

I have some pictures though not as many as I should have. Those will be up later.
