List Of Needs/Wants

Jul 25, 2006 16:57

This is mostly for my own benefit since I've gone into domestic mode the past coupla days. I hit several thrift stores and a few misc. stores like Target and Sears yesterday to get an idea of what we need and how much it'll cost (and to take advantage of a/c). What was neat was that at one of the thrift stores I was able to buy some plates and ( Read more... )

If you can get together a couple of people to go with you to make the trip really uber-worthwhile, Ikea has some startlingly good stuff at pretty decent prices, too. Also, we have a spare, good quality can opener that my relatives gave me for ...christmas? birthday? something like that... which I would happily fork over, if you like. We -really- don't need three. ^_^;;

This is a good idea. I need to do this. I keep running into things that Lars & I don't have here. ^^; V. silly, after a year, though sometimes a little silly. (how often do you really need a tiny wire whisk, anyway?)

Let us know if you do make a run. There's a display case I want and we never have room in the car for it. We'd chip in gas money.

I'm thinking I want to do it sometime in the next couple/few weeks. I'd like a chance to get together with people who have extras they don't use/want so I know what I can cross off the list.

Would love to have you come with us and my van would be perfect for transporting your case!

I went through this about seven months ago, and I know what it's like. I had the same thought, that it's like moving out of your parents house all over again. Instead of acquiring things as you go, you have to get everything all at once. I bought a bunch of stuff when I first moved out (left most of everything that wasn't a personal effect behind), and spent more money than I could really afford. then after that it seemed that every other day there was another little widget that I reached for and realized i didn't have one ( ... )

The computer chair I'm currently using isn't really the best either, but at least it's *something* to sit in. Would love to have one of the old one's from your work!

Thank you for offering to help with the furniture. I'm not much help even though the stuff isn't that heavy...it's just awkward. Unfortunately, I'd like to get that furniture the same weekend your sister moves out so she might be wanting your help that weekend (and they have a lot more stuff to move).

Since you've recently gone through the whole restocking a household experience, do you have any suggestions?

I haven't talked to my sister about it yet, but of course I want to help her. I can probably do both. I'll let you know after I talk to her.

As far as suggestions, I don't know. I wound up buying most of what i needed new at Target and Walmart, and went into more debt. I tried to get the bare minimum to start. I also bought a lot of food at Costco that was ready to cook. Things like lasagna that comes in it's own aluminum pan, and corn dogs, pizza, frozen food, etc. Things that i didn't need a stocked kitchen to cook. But given your reputation in the kitchen, that's probably a good idea for you anyway! ;) I'm still pretty much doing that. I still don't have any spices, and only about half the pots and pans I need. I got some stuff from friends too, extra stuff they didn't need.

I noticed that you crossed me off for computer chair. So I assume that means that you don't need mine anymore?

Also, I have a black leather high back (executive type) office chair at home. It's broken in that it won't lock in the upright position anymore. It's permanently in lazy mode. That's why I took it home from work originally. I thought it would be nice for extra seating in front of the tube, but my kids have been using it to push each other around, using it for "rides", and sitting in it right in the middle of the room, so people on the couch can't see. They're driving me nuts, so I want to get rid of it.
Anyway, if you're interested, I'd love to give it to you.
