Currently reading Just Kids by Patti Smith.  Definitely written well and all, I can understand why it won the National Book Award.  However, she claims that the death of Brian Jones was this monumental experience and that she had a great affection for him (as one has for rock stars).  She was in France at the time and claims that the newspapers all ( Read more... )

More on topic, have you ever read "L'Etranger"? First line is quite memorable, no?

Stupid livejournal never told me you responded to this, and I don't exactly check in that often. So sorry I didn't respond.
Anyways, I don't speak French, so I had to settle w/ reading "The Stranger." :cP We had to read it in high school (I believe it was senior yr., but I'm not sure). I liked it and as such, bought it.
When I told my mother that we were going to be reading that book, she immediately told me the first line, thereby ruining the "shock factor" needed for full impact. But I do remember it, so I guess the answer is "yes."
