Summary: There is no need for any hunting and Dean has stopped all but hunting for the food.
They walked around the supermarket. For about an hour they had filled the shopping chart with food, sodas, beer and snacks. Sam saw how longingly Dean looked at some of what they chose, and he knew his brother would have wanted to go snacking but was relived that Dean could contain himself.
Dean held on to the chart, pushing it, as he slowly went around. Now he only left the motel or the car when he needed food, or when they went out to eat, there were many more times Sam had to go shopping alone.
Sam came back from the next aisle with a few vegetables and saw there were new things in the chart.
"If you keep up filling our chart I hope you'll carry a few of the bags later." Sam pointed out, not daring to tell his brother to stop.
"Aren't you happy that I come with you?" Dean said trying to sound offended.
"Of course I am, but I don't like having to run back and forth."
Sam put the vegetables down and took hold of the chart, pushing Dean away from the biscuits before he'd put in more of them. Dean took the hint and tried to walk faster, but it was a snail pace compared to what he once had been able to walk.
When they got to the car Sam filled it with all bags, while Dean had snatched a bag of biscuits and sat down in the passenger seat. Sam closed the trunk, took a step back and looked at the car. The Impala leaned to the right where Dean sat.
Dean sat munching on the biscuits and Sam glanced towards his brother several times. There was not much space left around him. After a while Dean picked up that Sam was bordering.
"You're awful quiet, what's up?" Dean asked.
"Nothing."
"Sam don't lie, you been testy lately." Dean put his big hand on his arm.
Sam looked over, but quickly concentrated on the road.
"Come on it is something."
Sam moved his arm, so Dean's hand fell down. "We need to talk, but not before we're at the motel." After that Sam refused to say anything else.
At the motel, Sam parked as close he could to the door, and then they carried what they bought inside. Dean took only what he could carry once and then just sat down. Sam could have reminded him of what he had promise in the store, but he didn't.
Inside while Sam began to fix dinner, he could hear and see that Dean finished the biscuits and started on a bag of chips. Normally Sam would have been worried that Dean wouldn't have been able to eat the dinner, but of lately there didn't seem to be an end of what Dean could eat.
Sure of what he knew, Dean ate everything Sam had made. Had it been before the apocalypse, the food would have been enough for at least four people. These day's it took a lot to fill his brother. He had turned into a giant.
When they finished and Dean moved to the bed he asked, "Where did you put that strawberry cake I saw you buy?"
"Dean, you just ate a full course dinner with a large bowl of ice cream, how can you eat more?" Sam said, even if he actually knew the answer.
"Oh, come on. I still got room." Dean said as he patted his stomach.
Sam only huffed, and he didn't move to bring the cake as he sat down on the other bed.
Dean understood that Sam would not do anything more before he had that talk. He didn't look forward to it, though he wanted it over hoping Sammy would be happier.
"What is it you wanted to talk about?" Dean asked as he had lain down on his side to be comfortable.
Sam looked at his brother and let his eyes travel up and down of Dean's body. He had postponed this talk for too long.
Sam went directly to what was on his mind, "I think we need to find a place and settle down, one that's close to a food store, a work for me and big enough for you to stay. You're having a harder and harder time trying to get into to car and I don't think we're going to be able to get around for much longer."
Dean closed his eyes. Sam sat still in the bed, waiting. After a long moment Sam went up to take care after their dinner. He almost regretted that he said anything. It felt like he had said to Dean that he didn't love him anymore and was on the way to turning into a very slothful brother.
Sam was almost finished when Dean finally said something. "Where would you think would be a good place?"
Stunned by the sort of acceptance Sam could only shrug his shoulders. He hadn't thought that far yet, when he had been certain Dean would deny it was a necessary yet.
"Have you any suggestions or wishes?" Dean asked.
If Sam hadn't known his brother so well he wouldn't have heard the defeat that was in the question.
"You know that I wouldn't decide of anything without asking you, and that is what I'm doing now. Can't you think about it?" Sam said.
"I'll do it, if you give me that strawberry cake now."
Sam had expected Dean to want it so he was ready.
"You get it, if you allow me to feed it to you and…" Sam let the end vanish, as he licked his lips.
"What are you waiting for?" Dean said, wanting nothing else.
