Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 4/6
Unprepared, Johnny suddenly had a pair of arms around his waist. He could not avoid stiffening, though his tension disappeared quickly so he could lean back towards the man that hugged him. Next Johnny turned his face to search out Orlando’s jaw, placing a kiss upon it.
After, he told his lover, “I still haven’t gotten used to how silently you can move.”
“And here I thought I was being loud.” Orlando leaned forward to kiss Johnny on his cheek. “Sorry if I startled you. Did I mess anything up?”
Johnny threw a glance back at what he had been doing and answered, “No, nothing at all... you ready to eat, baby?”
“Oh, yeah, that you can bet on! Just the smell of it has teased me long enough.” Orlando laughed and hugged Johnny closer, giving him another kiss.
Johnny could feel how Orlando was trying to lean over to see what he had been making. Preparing the dinner had made Johnny lose some of his hunger, but he suspected that his lover would do everything to get anything, sooner than later.
With regret at losing the nice hold Orlando had on him, he had to tell the younger man to let go. “Not that I want you to ever really do it, but if you let me go, I can take this deep dish to the table and we can start to recharge your batteries.” Johnny winked at him mischievously, waggling his eyebrows.
Orlando opened the embrace and gave Johnny the space he needed to bring the warm food to the table. Orlando waited to follow, waiting until Johnny had put the deep dish down and held out his chair for the younger man to sit down on it.
“Johnny, Johnny…” Orlando couldn’t speak. He showed clearly that he was moved and his tears fell freely down his cheeks. After a moment, Orlando was able to get a hold of his composure. “Have I told you yet that I love you with all of my heart?”
For a pregnant second, Johnny was speechless. Orlando might not tell him in the direct words very often, but there were so many other things he did through which Johnny learned of the younger man’s love.
“Not in those exactly words, no, but love, you don’t need to say it. I know it.” Johnny took one of Orlando’s hands, squeezing it gently. “You show it to me. I, on the other hand, am bad about it… both in writing and saying how much I love you.”
Johnny felt the loss at once when Orlando drew his hand away. It changed quickly to an uncertainty of what to do, seeing the man opposite to him cover his face to hide the fact that he was crying again. Johnny handed Orlando his napkin. To give him time to compose himself again, Johnny started to pour red wine into their glasses. When he had been in the food store, he had found a new one that he wanted to test. According to the label, it would be perfect to drink with meat.
Orlando’s next statement woke him up from his thoughts. “I’m sorry. I’m such a crybaby.”
“You don’t need to excuse yourself. I would probably be in tears if I was in your position.” Johnny tried to keep his own voice steady. “You should’ve seen Vanessa…” he didn’t finish as he didn’t want to think about her. Today was his way to show how much Orlando meant to him, that it was his heart.
Seeing that the tears were accompanied by a smile on Orlando’s face showed so well how mood could switch. Johnny hoped the rest of the evening would be so much comfortable.
“Okay, I’ll try to remember that. I’ll not keep us from eating any longer, baby. It looks so delicious!” Orlando murmured.
They started on the meal. It warmed Johnny’s heart that Orlando seemed to like the food. Why wouldn’t he thought, when Johnny had fixed one of his favourite meals? They ate in silence to really savour the entrecôte, baked potatoes and vegetables.
“You’ll have to do this again sometime, Johnny,” Orlando told him after he’d emptied his plate.
Hearing that Orlando wanted to eat it again was great and told him he had succeeded. “Any special reason?” Johnny asked smiling.
“Hmm… well, you know how much I love baked potatoes and the entrecote was… just perfect.” Orlando replied, sipping some of the wine. “Would there need to be any other reason?”
Johnny nodded, knowing very well that it was Orlando’s favourite, it was for that reason he had chosen it. The wine was good as well and he would definitely buy more of it. Even if the dinner had been a disaster though, he would have been more than satisfied to only be together with Orlando. He could sit and watch him for hours. When he had revealed his true feelings for the younger man, he had really come to understand that he loved him.
“So, what’s next on the agenda?” Orlando pried, curious as always.
Johnny stood up from his place across the table, reaching over to take the plates and empty the dishes into the basin. He wanted to keep Orlando on tenterhooks. Why reveal everything at once when he could get out some fun of it?
Orlando joined him in the kitchen, Johnny noticing that he had become a bit restless because of his silence.
“I have more planned, my love… but that I planned to do in other places!” Johnny replied, a devious glint in his eyes and smile, before Orlando could repeat his question.
