Chapter 5

The days went by, and Orlando tried to continue as usual, pretending there wasn't anything wrong. He found it quite hard because every day, he seemed to spend a large amount of time in a bathroom throwing up. Not being able to keep everything he ate or drink down made him feel jaded and tired. He also felt that his hormones had really started to act up. He guessed that his medication wasn’t working as it was meant to, keeping the levels of testosterone and oestrogen at a steady level.

He knew that even if he'd missed taking pills for one or two days, he would have gotten back to normal after three or four days. It had been closer to a week now since he thought that he might have forgotten to take his medication, which would been one of the days in Toronto. When his nausea continued, he started to suspect that it had to be something more that had caused his hormones to run amuck.

Even if he tried to push down the nausea, not showing that anything was wrong, Orlando knew that he had failed a few times in front of others. He was just happy that it hadn’t been when he had been in front of fans or a TV camera. Both Kristen and Cameron had asked him a few times if he was sure he was all right. He had tried to convince them it was nothing to worry about though.

The whole thing made him tired. It was not only the throwing up and nausea that made him feel drained, he also found it hard to sleep. Orlando came to the decision that he had to call his doctor to see what she thought of his symptoms, especially if it hadn't improved before he was back in Los Angeles. He didn't think he had time to go through a new round of trying to fix the hormones, though he knew he had to if he wanted to feel well. If it went on for too long, he would be very weary, grumpy and would easily lose his temper.

Among the worse times was when everything had started to change in his body. If he had just been a guy, he would only have some uncomfortable awakenings with a hard on and cum all over his belly.

It had started when he was eleven making him feel jittery, hot and sweaty. He had started to become more interested in how people around him were built. His mind drifted when he dreamt of doing things with friends, or just someone who caught his eye. A lot of time, he had felt knots in his stomach, confused about what it meant. He was scared and didn't try to ask his friends if they felt anything like it. He didn't go to his mother or sister either. He tried to persuade himself that there wasn't anything wrong.

Then not long after he had turned twelve, his female hormones had started to make themselves known. He had been in school on the day his first period had come. If he just told his mother that he'd had stomach ache several days before and was more sensitive in his nipples, she might have been able to make him not as terrified as he had been when he had noticed the first blood.

That day, he had locked himself in the toilet and when the teacher had located him, it took up to twenty minutes before he even opened the door and let her in. He had been so upset that she had decided he had to go home and called his mother. Sonia had come and picked him up, and instead of going home, she had taken him to the doctor.

Their family doctor had no experience of Orlando's problem so he had sent them home with a promise that he would find someone who had better knowledge of Orlando's unique biology, and he would call as soon as he found that doctor.

Sonia had called the school to tell them that Orlando would be home for the rest of the week, in the hopes that Orlando's period would be finished and he would be feeling better.

After a few days, their doctor had called and given them the names of some doctors that could help. It turned out to be a team of doctors as it was so unusual for a person to have both working sets of genitalia, which was the situation with Orlando.

The first few periods proved to be the hardest since they came irregularly and varied in length, and every time, it came with a lot of stomach pain and also nausea. To learn why it seemed to be different than it was for a normal girl, the doctors took several tests, one of them to investigate the hormones to see what the levels were through out the month. Their results weren't what they had expected, the hormones spiking and dropping throughout the month. Noticing the changes, they started trying to find the right medication, so the hormones would stay on a more normal level during the whole month.

The tests continued, mostly to discover when Orlando needed to have more oestrogen than testosterone and vice versa. It also involved seeing if they could go from injections to tablets, knowing how much and when they were needed, the doctors finally managed to make a combination, though that took a year and a half. It took a few months more before they succeeded in getting them into tablets which then had to be specially made for Orlando. After all those months of struggling and test, Orlando could finally feel normal.

During the time of testing, Orlando had been moody and terrible towards his classmates and friends. There had been fights, times when he came home crying, his temperament changed with the same speed as his hormones. When he had been feeling at his worst, he had blamed Sonia for not doing anything when he was a baby. Times like then he hated her. When the doctors asked him if he wanted an operation to leave him with only one set of genitalia though, he had been hesitant. He had so far mostly lived as a boy, which would probably have been the best way for him to stay, but then he was curious about what it would be like as girl and a part of him wanted to learn more. So as long as he had showed some hesitation, none of the doctors wanted him to go through with such a life altering operation.

He was now happy that he never gone through with that operation, or he would never have had his lovely little daughter with David. It was Beatrix that had made things worth living through. He only wished that he could have the chance to live through that joy again. It wouldn't be totally wrong if it could be with Johnny. So Orlando decided that when he was back in Los Angeles, he would call his doctor, and he would call Johnny to see if there was something deeper between them.
