Day 6: Interstate 5 to Long Beach, CA

Really there's not much to say about the drive, except that it convinced me to take coastal and scenic roads whenever possible. The endless waves of tan terrain and straight unvarying road played more havoc with my resolve and driving endurance than any other portion of the trip so far. This is why driving along the west coast of Norway is such a pleasure: wavy, turn-y, hilly roads that are never boring to drive, and the scenery is just eye-wateringly gorgeous. Plus, there are no deserts in Norway. Mountain stretches might be a bit more barren than the lowlands, but it's still quite green in summer.

Oh man I totally know what you're talking about. The road between the redwood forest and Rohnert Park was amazing for those very reasons.
