On an openly political note

Nov 08, 2008 09:37

I am fairly certain I will always remember where I was on Guy Fawkes Day, 2008. It was the fifth of November, in Tokyo and I was at work sorting through frantic text messages with American electoral updates from mates with access to a computer. The studio in 上大岡 (Kamiooka) has no computer and I wad bregrudingly teching children as the world was ( Read more... )

We have a very similar understanding of marriage. I think you've explained it well here, but that could just be because I know what you're talking about. I find it difficult to explain this to others when they ask, which is also why I don't bring it up often.

I'm interested in reading more from people who think this way, so recommend away.

John D'Emilio has some great comments on this topic, especially in essay format. Jonathan Dollimore wrote Sexual Dissidence and it is totally worth the heavy, heavy read. Wilde would be a goof frame of rerence and I can always through Foucault in on that one. Discipline and Punish seems to work welll with the marriage topic in my mind. The Chalice and the Blade by Eisler is great. These readings are not all directly related but offer the philosphical and epistemological background for explaining some of the ideas around why marriage isn't so great or the rammifications of its political entaglements and what those mean for queers.

That's why I really don't want anything larger than a 1 bedroom condo. I don't need anything bigger, and I hate yardwork.

first off, I totally agree with you about the Obama thing...both the sheer awesomeness of him getting voted (by a landslide) into office and the whole people treating him like the second coming of Christ (you know it would be like that if he were a Republican and if a good chunk of religious people were bigots). I can decide whether I'm purely amused by this or utterly terrified ( ... )

p.s.

proof that I'm a little ADD...

I forgot my second point until now...

My boyfriend and I are on the same page as you about marriage...strangely enough we were just talking about that the other day and then I read this.

We are the black sheep of the straight community (well, I make out with girls and think they look good naked...so bordering straight I guess...lol)

Good for you and your mantoy! I wish more people would even have the discussion about the terms of their relationship and what works best for them. Even if people end up getting married, at least that way they would know they both actually want to. Making out with girls and fun, and yes they do look good naked. I was actually drooling over Mandy Sladkey when I saw her while I was in town. Sorry I missed you, love. You are always welcome to come visit and have a free place to stay.

Keep up the good political bitching!
