# 98% pass accuracy rate is not to be sniffed at.
# The charming fairytale of the tiny boy who grew up believing in this club and following his dream and working so hard to achieve it. That he is Barca, the very best of it, he makes it happen and stands by the team no matter what. When times were bad he could have gone to a big money club with the shiny crap but didn’t, he stayed and was part of building a big money club with shiny crap in his back garden. Haters are gonna hate but then he just comes back fighting to prove exactly what deluded losers they are.
# He doesn’t let the chance of yellow card get in the way of telling people how he really feels (though he gets booked for dissent way less than he used to). Whether that means deciding now is a great time to critique Real Madrid, or considering sexual climax an appropriate adjective, or both. And you can’t even argue with the trolling, because actually 99.999% of the time he’s completely right but that’s not even the point. Why watch a press conference when they’re just led out like show ponies to recite inane comments that are preapproved by the money makers. He believes in the club and the sport and is deeply passionate about life in general; which in all makes him if not brilliant then brilliant entertainment.
# I could make mockery that any other player claimed to hold a candle to him or can really take him on in a match, but that would be time consuming. He has no equal except the Barca babies, but they’re not rivals of course as they’re growing up with the master and have mutual respect, even then they’re all such individuals and there will never ever be another Xavi so if he ever retires there will be national mourning.
# The what 6000 youtube videos of the goal/run/assist/pass you just have to see because it’s a moment of profoundly beautiful football.
# His interviews are total hilarity … he’s very smart, self-deprecating, candid, and endearing in the fact he knows everything about football but cares so little about pretty much anything else.
# His very precious bromances. He’s such a team slut, declaring himself ‘in love with’ absolutely everybody; never scrimps on the pda either. I think the fact Iker Casillas still puts up with him is a glowing testament and endearing paradox of his sparkling interpersonal skills.
# The ridiculous drunken victory speeches, wannabe-gangster style posing, and that he waves like a pageant queen. That alone is worth the cover price when Barca win stuff.
# The dancing, oh good Cryuff the dancing … I’m still not over this situation.
# The glowing testimonials of virtually everyone who has shared oxygen with him and/or knows shit about football.
# Possibly [because I’m shallow like that] make mention of the fact he’s actually not bad looking, even with clothes on, and there will never be enough photos of him with his kit off. It’s not just me, there are a lot of likeminded people on the internet. Indeed this is pretty much the only thing (well and the trolling) that’s inching him higher in my esteem than say Iniesta; but also why I’m not writing about Puyol because that would just descend into a truly frivolous ode to his beautiful fierce manly curls which he bathes in the tears of Madridistas. So yes anyway with our man you get the proper ratio of aesthetics and noble qualities.
# His humility, his grace, his loyalty, his generosity of spirit, his outgoing romantic dorky charm, the fact he’s a family person at heart, and beloved of mothers/small children/animals in general. How truly infectious and restorative it is to witness someone who plays with such mastery and true genuine joy.
# If you can watch this, and it doesn’t melt your heart, then you probably don’t have one.
To me he is winner of winners. I'm not saying he doesn't do a thing wrong or has flaws; but what he does is done with swag and conviction.
