The problem with practicing traveling magic with the Nexus as a desired destination is that you never know where you're going to end up. Or when.
It doesn't take Amaris long to realize something's gone wrong when she steps out of the glowing blue doorway that's opened in one of the many Convenient Nexus Walls. She takes a few steps forward, giving her sister El room to come out as well, and studies the scene.
"I don't think," she murmurs to El, "that quite worked. But at least it's the Nexus."
Raising her voice a touch, she addresses the Nexus at large. "What, in your opinion, is a good present for one's older brother on the occasion of his sixteenth birthday? And more generally, why are young men of that age so determined to be seen as more than they are?"
