 *Having abandoned, for now at least, his search for a word to use in place of "ecumenical", the captain is on the prowl in the Nexus again, and prowl is exactly the right word for it.

It could be said he was pacing up and down like a caged tiger, but that would probably be unfair to tigers: Hook paces too fast and does not quite have a tiger's lounging grace that says they're just pacing for fun, no, really. They can stop any time they like.

He looks more as if someone has told him that for every step you pace, a new doubloon is born. He callously sacrifices newborn coins to stop, look up, and ask*

Is it easier to feel beholden to people of long acquaintance, or to those with whom you have barely scraped acquaintance?
