This young man - perhaps in his late teens or early twenties, willowy, with black hair and eyes that are a dull, flat blue - is standing in a public area of the Nexus, staring blankly at nothing in particular. He's dressed in something approaching a modern suit, a reserved blue, but with some subtly retro influences - like the ascot, and that pocketwatch-chain at his belt.
"Your grandfather's axe," he says, suddenly. His voice is fairly soft, almost lilting, his pronunciation smooth and clear. His accent is light, something of the American South, well-tempered by exposure to other dialects. "If your grandfather replaces the head of his axe, and then he replaces the handle of his axe, is it still the same axe?"
He's still looking off blankly as he continues - "What about people?"
