So I'm due for a new computer and R is thinking a Mac. I have not used one since highschool, so half a lifetime ago. Any mac users out there? Love to hear your thoughts either way.

We work on Mac's at work! That is all they will use in the studio! I love my MAC that I use at my desk too, but unfortunately it is not compatible to the new accounting software I am going to be using, so they had bought me a laptop. I love the fact it is so protected! And, I love that it never asks me if it's ok to do a process!!!!! Yep, I do love my MAC. Faster too, or so it seems.

It depends on what you want to use your computer for, your budget, and what you're used to ( ... )

I disagree with the above poster. While Macs are certainly great for graphics/film editing etc., they are designed incredibly well (nearly to perfection) for the home user. In fact, it is even more user friendly and intuitive than PCs for those that want a machine that simply works better ( ... )

I find that macs are a 'lifestyle' rather than an appliance. And mac users are quite rabid about taht usually. Personally..when I want a computer...I want an appliance...not a lifestyle. I dont want to have to go on mac-pride parades or start wearing sandals. And I really dont respect the fact that all their advertisements are around slogging the PC. I dont like it when political candidates do mud slinging...and I certainly dont like it when computer companies do so. The mac is certainly *not* a superior machine. I know the guts of both machines, I know the OS code for both machines. They could be twins really. Mac users will tell you taht the mac is better because they have bought into the lifestyle. PC users will tell you the PC is better because the 'lifestyle' makes them puke in their mouths a little. I wont tell you either. Dont be swayed by what one person says is better or not...they are about the same in quality. The PC gets more viruses because microsoft is a big target and mac the underdog...and people like to shoot for the ( ... )

I have used both recently... and it really is a must try and see what you like sort of thing... I am comfy with PC and so feel little inclination to buy a Mac.... but the Mac at work became just as familiar once I learned it .. not that I got to play with the fun stuff.... See if you rent or play on a friends to get a feel for it before deciding I would say...
