My brother BB called today and he sounded really upset but wouldn't say why. We talked for a bit but then he had to go so I said goodbye and told him not to be a stranger (cause you know he never answers the phone or calls back and we worry about him cause he lives so far from us in Jersey and we can't get to him immediately if shit happens

How in the world could you have possibly known what would happen? It's NOT your fault. And you're obviously making efforts to talk, you're doing the most you can. It's up to him if he wants to console in you or not. A loss of a pet is a difficult thing, and everyone handles it differently. Maybe he didn't want to burden you, or maybe he wanted time alone to deal with his grief. Who knows? What I do know is that you did nothing wrong, and you're a wonderfully compassionate person.
