This was something that crossed my mind Thursday after a conversation with a friend but I felt like I had to post this after reading the translation of Kamenashi Kazuya’s Hang Out broadcast from yesterday.
Does the mother’s wants/expectations for the sex of the child impact the child if it turns out to be the opposite sex?
Example 1: My mom told me that when she was pregnant with me she really wanted a boy. Fate had different ideas and out came a little girl. I may have been a girl but I sure didn’t act like one. I was the biggest tomboy around. I played in the dirt with the boys in the playground. I would freak out my mom by bringing her a big worm. I had a nice collection of Matchbox cars. I was waaaaaayy more comfortable in pants than in dresses (still am in fact). I have not grown out of my tomboy ways but I know how to manage them in certain settings.
Example 2: My youngest cousin. When my aunt was pregnant with him she had really been expecting a girl. Her pregnancy had been much like it was when she was pregnant with her daughter and nothing like it was when she was pregnant with her first son. She would even refer to my cousin by the name she had prepared for a girl. Well when she gave birth … surprise, it’s a boy. And here is where the title of my post comes in. Wherever she would take him people would confuse him for a girl. When she would correct them they would say, “But he is too cute to be a boy.” He has grown into a manlier looking young adult, but much of that prettiness is still there.
Example 3: Precious Kame-chan. While he was going through his life story yesterday he said that his parents had been expecting a girl but instead they got boy #3. And look at him now, part of the “girls team” with Ueda (not so much right now, but they both are still the prettier ones out of the bunch). I’m not so sure about when he was really young, because I really don’t have much in the way of videos that showed pics of him as a child nor do I feel like stalking the internet to find such pics. And the teenage years don’t count because of that whole “Awkward Phase” thing that messes up with many a kid’s looks.
Now I wonder if Ueda Tatsuya’s mom was expecting a girl?
Just another one of those things that run through my head when I'm supposed to be studying. Ugh
