A/N: OK, I took the day off uni coz I'm sick thanks to the goddamned funky weather over here! And yes i know it's been awhile! This post doesn't mean I will be posting regularly from now on, unfortunately. But I DESPERATELY wanted to post something just to let you guys know that I HATE neglecting my LJ :( So, this is the first of a couple of gift!fics I've been trying to write. It's for
evilgirl89 and I hope it meets with your approval! I KIND OF strayed from the original prompt a bit (which will be posted at the end of the fic) but I hope it's still okay! Otherwise, feel free to prompt me again and I shall try my hardest on that one too. LOL.
Also! Just a general notice to those who sent me prompts, if any if you want to change your minds or change your prompts for your gift!fics at all, just PM me. I'm saying this coz some prompts were set during Christmas and it's SO not Christmas anymore, LOL. But if you're okay with Christmas any time, then...I guess that's okay? LOL. Anyway, okay, enough chatter from me, enjoy!

It was Christmas Eve.
They hadn’t arrived together, of course. He and JaeJoong never did couple things like that if they could help it. Sometimes, one had to have boundaries, you know? To know when to pick up on the fanservice or cut back some. Right now, it was the latter. Too many rumours hinting that they were more than just friends, too many photo-shopped images and fangirls sending in requests for the two of them to get married.
It was just…weird.
This was JaeJoong they were talking about! His friend - who, okay, he sometimes found very attractive to the point of mesmerizing - but let’s not talk about that.
They’d been skirting each other for weeks now, flinching at each accidental touch like it burned, moments of silence drawn out a little longer than usual, gazes meeting more often than usual, lasting longer than usual, heartbeats tripping and skipping more now than ever. And then one or the other would look away, look at something else other than the other person, clear his throat awkwardly and scratch the back of his neck while hiding a small smile. It seemed like things between them had been like that since…he didn’t even know when.
So, they decided not to make their way to the Christmas party together, instead going their separate ways. Yunho, who was never late, stood by the fireplace, tall and handsome as usual, swirling a glass of scotch on the rocks with a steady hand as he casually leant a shoulder against the mantle, hand without the glass settled inside his pants pocket. The murmur of the party crowd was pleasant and soothing, the alcohol causing a pleasurable buzz inside him. His black turtleneck was just the perfect side of cozy, and Yunho silently thanked Changmin for reminding him that the dress code was smart-casual and not semi-formal.
Someone, who knew someone, who knew manager-hyung, owned the lodge holding the Christmas party. It was all kinds of wood and warm, with fluffy rugs lining the floors, big cushions strewn everywhere just begging to be lain on, a buffet table in the other room perfect for five Changmins and more than enough for the one he arrived with. There were loveseats strategically placed at various points in the room, the lighting was warm and came off the small lamps set into the walls and the candles on the tables. It made the place glow. The picturesque view the windows provided was nothing short of flawless, not even the snow falling heavily outside could break the ambiance of warmth. It was perfect for a winter getaway, which is just as well that they had rooms here for the Christmas weekend (courtesy of the someone, who knew someone who knew manager-hyung, of course).
Yunho surveyed the crowd with a practiced eye at picking out the difference between genuinely down-to-earth and certified gold-digger - their business was risky after all. He could just make out Changmin’s smartly tailored jacket as the youngest tossed his head back to laugh at something someone said.
It wasn’t hard to recognize the exact moment that JaeJoong decided to arrive. Almost an hour late, with the two other band members on either side of him, he was a sight to behold. Standing just inside the doorway, the three of them paused to survey the room, neglecting the three steps in front of them that one had to descend before being immersed within the crowded room.
Yunho’s heartbeat skipped a few beats as he watched JaeJoong straighten his stance, back straight; shoulders pulled back; chin held high - pride in all the ways he can show it. Yunho’s lips twitched with the beginnings of a smile. Trust JaeJoong to make the most of his entrance by preening like a peacock.
