LOTS OF RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES AND A FAST CHARGER!!
Did I say that loud enough? LOL
I carried around ALL the stuff I was going to have autographed with me at all times, because sometimes schedules get changed and you don't want to have to run back to your room constantly. Take extra sharpies, one black, one silver metallic for signing, in case they don't have the one you need for your pic on the table.
Take your camera with you everywhere, you never know who will pop up somewhere. After hours the bar is the general meeting place for serious fans and you really get to know folks there, trade stories and have fun. Sometimes the actors show up (although I'm pretty sure you won't catch AT there, you might Carmen).
Don't wear a white t-shirt to the photo op (unless it's under a jacket), but DO wear something colorful or bright. It makes for a much better photo.
And don't be shy about taking lots of photos during the talks. I took zillions to get the few good shots I did. ;-)
Be prepared to be standing in lines for photos/autographs for a while.
Also, I ended up with a migraine and food poisoning at my last con! Avoid any dodgy looking cafes that might just happen to be nearby.
The comment about the photos -- if they let you take photos during the talks, do it! They get really tough on it in Australia, and only let you take them when they come out on stage and as they're leaving. If you get more chance, you could get some really good shots.
Also, you never know who's going to be great. I was amazed by Alexis Cruz. Really, really impressed.I went to the last con for Torri (and she was my favourite!) but Alexis was incredible! He could be a motivational speaker. He's just kind of inspiring.
^^^Good point! Reading the con's Convention Policies and following them is great advice. Polite fans have the best time. ;-) And if you have a question, grab an organizer or a handler and ask. That's what they are there for and they want you to have a good time! They also LOVE it when you compliment them on a job well done.
If you are doing any dinner/breakfast events, it helps to have a question ready when each actor gets to your table. Sometimes they don't know where to begin without a little help. Something to elicit more than a yes/no is good. Like, wow, what was it like to work with _____?
hmmmm, Amanda, what was it like to work with Tobias??? You mean like that? LOL
Thanks for all the help. I'm starting to get a bit stressed with everything to be done before I go. I'm afraid I'll forget something, but I guess it would be hard to forget something really essential. 'Specially with you folks helping me out.
Oh, yes. You can often think of a question after seeing them speak. Michael Shanks wanted to talk kids. I believe it was Deeds who asked the question about kids. Michael Shanks stayed at our table longer than usual and I think that was the reason.
I knew that Sesh would say batteries because she's "Battery Lady". LOL.
Bring healthy snacks. You may not get much time to eat. It will save you money, too. Don't forget to take photos of your friends and the fans. They're the best photos.
And don't be afraid to ask. They might not say "no". :-)
Healthy snacks! That's what I needed at my last con. I ended up eating this dodgy Greek salad from a dodgy looking cafe at lunch time, and I was sick all day... Sicker than I've ever been in a long time. A girl who was sitting next to me kept saying "Don't throw up on Torri!! Don't throw up on Torri!!"
