[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Lester | Bullseye
FANDOM: Marvel 616
CHRONOLOGY: Shadowland 1, after arriving in NYC but before reaching the Hand's fortress
CLASS: mass murdering psychopath assassin villain who will totally chuck his tags
SUPERHERO NAME: Bullseye
ALTER EGO: Lester...

BACKGROUND:

The early details of Bullseye's life (and even his true name) are sparse, and the information that does exist is potentially flawed, as Bullseye is an unreliable narrator. Daredevil mentioned that Bullseye's mother was a prostitute and that he never knew his father. In a flashback, however, Bullseye's mother ran off with another man, leaving him to be raised by an abusive, alcoholic father. Currently, nothing further has been revealed about his childhood. In his first appearance, Bullseye told a reporter that he had signed up to play Major League baseball when the Vietnam war broke out and instead enlisted, where he excelled at killing. After the war, he became a mercenary, traveling the world, learning about exotic weaponry, and perfecting his techniques.

Bullseye then arrived in (or perhaps returned to) New York City whereupon he endeavored to make a name for himself via extortion and murder. He made it into the tabloids and became even more known after his fight with Daredevil at the circus. His scheme was cut short, however, when Daredevil caught him not long after. From that moment, Bullseye considered Daredevil his most hated enemy, being the only person to successfully avoid his shots (and thereby challenging his claim to having infallible aim). Over time, Bullseye engaged Daredevil whenever he could, involving increasingly outrageous stunts (from holding a TV studio hostage to kidnapping Black Widow), both to garner himself more publicity as well as attempt to kill his nemesis. With each defeat, Bullseye became further obsessed with Daredevil.

When Bullseye kidnapped the Black Widow, his fight with Daredevil culminated in a mental breakdown. In prison, it was discovered he had a malignant tumor in his brain which caused him to act erractically and hallucinate that Daredevil was every person he saw. He escaped before the doctors could operate. Once again, Daredevil tracked him down. They fought until Bullseye was knocked unconscious. Daredevil almost left him to be run over by a subway train, but ultimately saved him (causing Bullseye's obsessive hatred to ramp up to 11). The tumor in his brain was then successfully removed and he was released from prison.

Next, Bullseye was hired to kill the Kingpin, but switched alliances when he received a better offer from his mark. However, after yet more jail time, Kingpin hired Elektra in Bullseye's stead. Upon learning this, Bullseye escaped from prison to kill her and reclaim his position as the Kingpin's hitman. At the same time, he deduced that Matt Murdock was Daredevil. A simple ploy involving a mannequin later threw him off, however, and in a fight with Daredevil, Bullseye fell, ending up paralyzed.

Japanese crime boss Lord Dark Wind kidnapped Bullseye from the hospital and brought him to Japan to heal him, as well as strenghten/replace some of his bones with Adamantium. In exchange for these treatments, Dark Wind wanted Bullseye to act as his assassin. Bullseye agreed, then left the island, but not to pursue the target; he simply returned to New York to work for the Kingpin.

When Daredevil disappeared from New York, Bullseye took up the mantle. In order to ruin Daredevil's reputation, he stole and brutalized innocent citizens. In time, he grew tired of acting the thief, so he decided to play hero. The real Daredevil confronted him dressed as in his Bullseye costume, while the real Bullseye had a little bit of an identity crisis. After his defeat, he returned to being Bullseye.

Bullseye then took on jobs from the Kingpin as well as independent contracts. He also teamed up with the likes of mercenaries such as Deadpool, with whom he has worked numerous times (most of which saw Bullseye attempting to kill Deadpool, despite admitting his fellow merc made him laugh). A notable part of his history during this time was when he was hired to kill the Punisher. Through careful study and scheming, he managed to convince Castle that he'd killed a civilian family. Bullseye's several attempts on Castle's life failed, but Castle was apprehended and given the death sentence. While strapped to the electric chair, Bullseye appeared disguised as a priest in order to mock the Punisher and admit that he had killed the family, not Castle. The Punisher managed to survive and shortly thereafter shot Bullseye's hands in order to cripple him.

In another noteworthy event, Mysterio hired Bullseye to kidnap a baby. Bullseye tracked it down to Saint Maggie's church, where Daredevil and his girlfriend, Karen Page, were. The mercenary killed the nuns, beat Daredevil to a pulp, and killed Page with one of Daredevil's billy clubs after she handed over the infant.

When Daredevil's identity as Matt Murdock leaked, Bullseye approached Kingpin looking for work; he offered to kill Murdock for a position in Kingpin's operations. Bullseye made it as far as breaking into Murdock's house and was about to kill Murdock's girlfriend, Milla Donovan, only for Daredevil to arrive. After a brutal fight, Daredevil mocked Bullseye's forehead tattoo and carved over it.

During the Civil War, Bullseye was coerced by Norman Osborn into being a member of the Thunderbolts, a team that brought in unregistered superheroes. Prior to making his "offer", Osborn had injected Bullseye with nanites, telling him they were a mild sedative. Osborn threatened Bullseye with paralyzing him with the nanites if his offer was refused, as well as promised Bullseye he would be able to kill Daredevil. In the Thunderbolts, Bullseye's involvement was kept from the public due to him being, well, a notorious mass-murdering psychopath. He typically only went into the field as a last resort, and even then he was kept hidden under cloaking devices and watched by two guards. When not working for Osborn, he remained chained up in a cell at Thunderbolts Mountain, such was the danger he posed.

On one particular mission, fellow Thunderbolt Songbird convinced Bullseye that his nanites have been turned off. Believing her, he killed his guards and joined the fray to fight the hero American Eagle. At the same time he received a blow to the head, his nanites were triggered. His neck was broken, his body paralyzed, and he received brain damage as a result of the combined traumas. Bullseye remained immobile and unable to speak for a time. Nanosurgery eventually healed him. He woke up while psychics at Thunderbolt Mountain wreaked havoc on the facility. Unaware he was ending the chaos, he killed the psychics, telling them they were merely target practice.

During the Skrull invasion, Bullseye took advantage of the mayhem to kill both Skrulls and humans, one of whom was the sister of fellow Thunderbolt, Swordsman. He attempted to kill Swordsman as well, but Moonstone stopped him, as she had plans for manipulating Swordsman. In the battle in Central Park, Bullseye used a rocket launcher to take out a Skrull, even though initially he had it aimed at Daredevil.

After the Invasion and at the end of the Thunderbolts' first year, Bullseye got the chance to get revenge against Songbird when Osborn sent him to kill her. She managed to throw him off and evade the rest of the team until Bullseye caught up with her a second time. About to kill her, he was taken out by Swordsman.

When Osborn was appointed head of S.H.I.E.L.D. (promptly renamed H.A.M.M.E.R), Bullseye was offered a position in the Dark Avengers as Hawkeye. As with his stint in the Thunderbolts, his involvement was kept a secret, given his propensity to kill and maim more frequently than not. He aided his team on numerous missions, but grew restless in the guise of Hawkeye, wanting credit for his kills. One night, while in costume as Hawkeye, he saved a woman from her attackers, only to kill all members involved carve a bullseye on one of the corpses. A news crew in a helicopter managed to catch it all on tape, so he killed them as well.

Osborn used Bullseye for several of his more unsavory plans. Bullseye was shown to be one of Osborn's reliable torturers (notably torturing Spider-Man for hours). Osborn also sent him on several missions with the intent to eliminate enemies. He clashed with Deadpool twice, eventually resorting to paying off his fellow mercenary after failing to kill him. He failed to kill Elektra as well, despite injuring her. When Osborn finally gave Bullseye the opportunity to kill Daredevil, Bullseye donned his original costume and engaged the hero in a fight. He lured Daredevil to a tenement building, which was exploded, killing one hundred and seven people. Bullseye then left Daredevil for dead.

Moonstone began flirting with him and they were seen having sex in the meeting room of Avengers Tower in front of H.A.M.M.E.R. agents. Osborn sent Victoria Hand to stop them, whereupon Bullseye asked if it was her turn. Later that day, Osborn informed Bullseye that he wanted Lindy Reynolds, the Sentry's wife dead. The next day, Bullseye took advantage of the situation created between Doctor Doom and the Sentry, convincing Reynolds he would be taking her in a helicopter to a safe meeting place with the others. Instead, while over the ocean, he strangled her and dumped her body. Upon arriving at the destination, he reported that Reynolds had committed suicide because she was afraid of her husband. The Sentry then attacked him, only to be stopped by Osborn corroborating Bullseye's story.

Bullseye (as Hawkeye) joined the Dark Avengers and the Initiative in the attack on Asgard, although it was clear he had no interest in being there. Witnessing Osborn's defeat by Iron Man and Captain America, as well as his mental breakdown, it became obvious the situation would not end well, and Bullseye and Moonstone attempted to flee. They were both arrested, and attempted to escape, but were apprehended once more.

Bullseye was then secured by S.H.I.E.L.D. and while en route to Ryker's Island, intimidated his guards by telling them the Sentry would be coming for him. He faked a heart attack, which prompted the guards to release him from his bonds so that they could perform CPR. He revived once freed and killed the guards and the pilot, then commandeered the plane, heading toward Hell's Kitchen where he planned to engage Daredevil.

PERSONALITY:

If there is one word to describe Bullseye, it is psychopath. What this means, of course, is that he has all the nasty traits that are par for the course: he's selfish, egotistical, sadistic, obsessive; bloodthirsty; he lacks empathy; and, at times, he's psychotic.

Above all else, he loves killing. It's what defines him. It is both his job and his hobby. He's a career assassin and frequently refers to himself as the greatest assassin in the world, but he doesn't do it for the money; he does it for the sheer joy of it. His creativity is limitless: anything in his hands is a deadly weapon, from bullets and arrows to playing cards and toothpicks (he once said "Killing's an art. And that makes me Picasso."). His confidence in his ability is such that he frequently brags about never missing and being the best. His reputation as the best is very important to him; if he feels someone is challenging his position, he will stop at nothing to prove him/her wrong.

Ergo...his obsession with Daredevil. Daredevil is, in Bullseye's words, "almost better", and he cannot stand that. Each time Daredevil beats him, Bullseye grows more obsessed with the hero. He spends time studying him in order to beat him. Daredevil's very existence challenges Bullseye's position as the best and, by extension, his self-image. If Daredevil is better, then Bullseye is no longer the best, and so...what does he become? Because Bullseye is so mentally unstable, he thinks in black and white terms; only "good" and "bad". He is incapable of changing his mode of thinking, nor can he accept defeat. Anyone who dares to unseat his position as the best is "bad" and therefore must be eliminated, lest they trigger an existential crisis. Unfortunately for Bullseye, he fails to kill Daredevil every time. Destroying the lives of people around the hero isn't enough. As a sadist, he certainly enjoys the pain for which he's responsible (he often toys with his targets to increase their suffering, and he thoroughly enjoys inflicting a variety of torture on others), but in the grand scheme of his life, nothing can compare to getting at the man himself. His interest in Elektra, while containing similar elements, is nowhere near the obsession he holds for Daredevil.

Beyond no longer being the best, Bullseye fears being paralyzed. As a man who's self-image and empowerment comes so strongly from being physically deadly, it is unsurprising that a lack of control and feeling of total helplessness cause him great anxiety. Being crippled and paralyzed at Daredevil's hand was utter torture and horror to him, and Norman Osborn even uses the threat of this as an intimidation tactic when he forces Bullseye's participation in the Thunderbolts.

Despite his highly dysfunctional and highly violent personality, he's not unintelligent. He possesses all the cunning of a cold-blooded predator, manipulating people to further his own ends. He can also be quite glib, especially when lying. He is cognizant of the fact that when he's bored, he kills for fun, which is "not good for anybody". He knows he needs direction; he needs goals.

He is often crude and crass in speech, and he is always arrogant; he respects very few people (in fact, he hates most everyone) and he is incapable of feeling empathy, so why should he bother?

POWER:

While not a superhuman, Bullseye has the inherent, uncanny ability of unerring aim, and much of his skeleton has been reinforced with Adamantium. However, if possible, I would like him to arrive in game with rapid cellular regeneration.

[The audio function begins with the background din of people talking and the clink of silverware on plates. Someone close coughs, then speaks:

'I'll take a coffee to start, babe.'

There's a brief pause, then he speaks more loudly, this time into the communicator.]

Been looking at your little network here and, boy, you people are boring. Is asking dumb questions about bullshit all you do? I was expectin' more violence; put a buncha superpowered idiots together and you're bound to have a problem here or there.

So what's the gig? We all know the saying about the Devil and idle hands, so I'm sure you got one or eight teams knockin' around here. Somebody fill me in. Hell, I might even lend my talents if the pay is good enough.

['Excuse me, sir, but there's no smoking allowed here...'

After a moment, the speaker responds, 'Oh, I'm sorry; lemme just put it out...'

Another pause, followed by a thud, and a soft 'Bullseye.'

Just as the screaming begins, the feed cuts out.]

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:

Welcome to the City, hero.

Well, that made things interesting. After Normie's little breakdown, not to mention that whole getting-arrested-by-S.H.I.E.L.D.-for-treason thing, this was the last thing Bullseye expected. Hell, he could roll with it, though; he'd wear any stupid costume his employer wanted, go by any idiotic alias, so long as he got to kill. But first thing was first: Daredevil.

Discovering the Hand's fortress suddenly didn't exist put a bit of a kink in his plans.

On the other hand...it didn't seem as though federal agents were on their way to track him down. In fact, it didn't seem as though anyone knew he was here in this alternate New York at all.

Heh.

It'd been much too long since he'd been completely off his leash. Completely free. For a moment, all he could hear was his pulse in his ears as he selected a random mark amid the crowd from his vantage point. He already felt that familiar rush of pre-kill adrenaline. God, he loved that feeling. Without thinking, without removing his eyes from the target, his hand slipped into a pouch on his belt to retrieve a card.

Instead, he pulled out the communicator. The wrinkled forehead of that decrepit old lady with the parasol now forgotten, Bullseye flipped open the device, his eyebrows raising at what the screen showed. After a few moments of scrolling and browsing a handy little attorney listing, he grinned.

It appeared the kink in his plans wasn't such a deterrent after all.
