I've said it before and I'll say it again. The ipad is a complete waste of money. Personally, I can't think of anything so important that I couldn't wait until I got to a wifi area (which are damn near everywhere nowadays). And if you absolutely need internet 24/7, just get a netbook with a 3G unit. It's far cheaper, only half an inch thicker, and you can do whatever you want on it instead of only apple apps. The ipad really isn't anything more than a glorified ereader with a browser. Besides, wasn't the whole point of getting the Droid to get internet on it?
Well, it's not just getting to a wifi area, it'd be getting to a FREE wifi area (and if I'm stuck in an airplane terminal, since the fuckers have generally started charging, I'd be wanting internet access, just to pass the time).
And it IS a glorified eReader, which is exactly what I need. I'd been debating getting a Kindle for a while, and I'd certainly much, much, much rather carry an iPad than one of those. It can read things without Amazon's DRM or ability to reach out and delete things. And there's a synch-with-Project-Gutenberg app. And, of course, it can do other things, like play movies and whatnot, or even just read magazines in color.
Speaking of which... I might be looking at home renovation/design in the next year. My dad's gf had piles and boxes and stacks and bins of furnishing/design/construction magazines and catalogs. If I get the iPad, I can do the same thing with easily-sortable screenshots. Yay!
Oh, and I still <3 my shiny Droid. There's going to be a large number of scenarios where I don't want to lug around
