So . . . what does one do when one's crazy mother-in-law-to-be makes a comment about threatening to take one's child and baptize her herself

Having been raised Catholic ( ... sort of), I'll try to describe the reason why his mom is probably going nuts about the baptism thing. I don't know if it's the same in the Lutheran church or not. Catholics are taught that baptism is essential for a person to receive as soon as possible, the first of four important sacraments to dedicate yourself to God. Unbaptized people/children go to limbo if they die -- in the eyes of the Church. So in other words, she thinks that if anything ever happened to her before she was baptized, she'd be screwed. So that is probably the reason (plus, I guess, just tradition) she's so insistent on it. It's like spiritual insurance or something. The way it goes in the Catholic Church is, you're baptized as a baby, and then later on you get to make a decision to reaffirm that commitment with Confirmation when you're a teenager

Yeah, see in the Lutheran church, limbo doesn't exist - nor does purgatory for that matter. Either you go to heaven or hell, there's no in between

Why do you care if some crazy lady wants to dump water on Ana's head? Will Ana cease to be Ana? I'll let you in on a little secret; all my pagan children were baptized Catholic. It made people happy to go through the motions and it did my brats no harm. The small amount of time they were actually exposed to the religion was good for them so they could be exposed to other religions. If you seriously want hr to choose, she'll have to be exposed to as many religions as possible, why not let someone else help with that?
If it makes the mother in law happy and does no harm, why not. Just make sure to remind Ana that there are other beliefs and be sure to expose her to them. Maybe pick one a month to study.
I say, the miserable bitch gets out of hand, lynch her. I don't fucking know her, her life means nothing to me. Just one less throwing change in the collection plate, far as I can see. Just remember, murder is always the answer. Love You!!!!<3<3<3
