And I completely agree with how you described the UK and US versions.
Since you've been computerless, I don't know if you knew I'm watching The West Wing now. I've gotten up through "Someone's Going to Emergency, Someone's Going to Jail" in season two, all with Netflix discs, but when we got our income tax return on Friday, I immedately ordered the entire series on DVD from Amazon. :D And I got it for less than $200!!! Wheeeeeee!
And I will just say at this point that I am in love with Toby, and, although I like the idea of C.J./Toby, and just have to go with C.J./Danny. And this is HUGE for me because I rarely, rarely EVER 'ship shows. P/C and M/S were it for me 'til this show.
Until my DVDs come in (probably next week some time), I am spending my time reading recaps at TWoP and watching clips at YouTube and (now) staying away from WW fanfics 'cause I've managed to spoil myself more than I like ;)

So glad you've been bitten by the West Wing bug! I'm a CJ/Danny fan myself, although Josh/Donna is my fave and I also liked the idea of Sam/Ainsley...because Sam is adorable and Ainsley just totally cracks me up! Yeah I know, SUCH a shipper but I can't help myself. I'm just up to Shibboleth in season two myself.
And of course when you finish with west wing it'll be time to introduce you to the joy that is Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Only one season because it was just too good for tv!
