Okay, I know that my memory isn’t what it used to be, but I do have pretty good memories of snow storms.  I lived in Los Alamos, NM, as a teen (where three feet of snow in a night wasn’t uncommon during the winter) and was stationed in Charlevoix, MI, during my career (where three feet of snow in a night wasn’t uncommon during the summer).

It's called a thunder-snow. They happen from time to time.

It's rare, but it can happen.

I seem to remember that it means that you've been having an especially violent snow storm. LUCKY YOU!

Happens at least once every 2-3 years in MO, and that is just what storms have been obvious enough to register with my memory. I rather adore thundersnow.

It happens mostly when the air the snow is falling though is very dry and cold. [all those snow flakes rubbing together create an electrical charge, just as rain drops do.]

I should point out, that thanks to climate change, it should start happening more frequently in general [depending on where we're talking about].
