Pairing of the week: Usagi and Mamoru
Alright folks! Here's the moment you've all been waiting for! The Usagi and Mamoru debate and discussion. Again, discuss why you like them or why you don't like them.
For me, this is honestly one of my OTPs of Sailor Moon <3 I'm a sucker for the whole Miracle Romance aspect of it. With that said however, I only ship it in PGSM, the manga and the first two seasons of the anime. I do not ship them however in the anime's S through Stars seasons because Mamoru becomes extremely boring by then, loses a lot of his personality and attitude and starts acting more like Usagi's father then boyfriend. I much prefer her with Seiya in seasons 3-5 of the anime as she had better chemistry with him then with Mamoru by then.
However, even though its my Sailor Moon OTP in everything else I can still find flaws with the pairing. First off, I don't really like how Mamoru is basically "forced" to love Usagi. It definitely feels like he's just with her because "has to" and its his "destiny." He doesn't seem to love Usagi for herself, hell I don't think his present self even loved the Princess in his dreams! I think he just clings so tightly to his previous life because he's trying to hold on to some type of memories and past since that's all he has, due to his memories of his current life being completely erased!
I don't blame the guy, but it definitely makes the whole so-called "Miracle Romance" come off forced and not natural as say opposed to Haruka/Michiru who chose to love each other despite not having any sort of past together. Honestly, I feel that it wouldn't even matter to Mamoru who Serenity was! He would just be with whoever that Princess in his dreams was in order to find some meaning in his life. If Serenity turned out to really be Minako, then he would've been with her! I really don't believe he fell in love with Usagi for herself.
