You know, it occurs to me that in the more than 4 years that I have been here at The Ohio State University, I have not once had an African American professor nor African American graduate teaching assistant. I dunno if it's culturally true across America, but I have heard a black parent lament over his son's complaint that if he excelled academically, he was ostracized for being white...

Which means there is a culture of academic self denial and castration in the black community, which may be translating into the upper echelons of academia.

It is very sad.

On the flip side, I hear similar stories about girls in school too, where if a girl is too smart or intelligent, she is unattractive to the boys, uncool with the girls, and ignored by the teachers in order to "let other students have a chance".

I repeat, it is very, very, sad.
