OMG My Feet are killing me! So I worked my first full 8 hour shift yesterday at Coldstone. honestly it wasn't bad. The guy that is training me, Zach, has a funny way of explaining literally everything. I didn't think there was that much to the job too b ut I was way wrong. We really do more cleaning than anything. We have to keep our ice cream slab ( Read more... )

Cold Stones dying everywhere anonymous October 13 2007, 09:48:20 UTC
This is just one of hundreds of Cold Stone locations now collapsing around the US. Why? Because the "concept" of mixing stuff into ice cream has always been a fad, and the fad is now over. The product isn't that good, is grossly overpriced, and consumers are flocking back to properly formulated ice cream from other chains like Baskin Robbins and Ben & Jerry's.

The Cold Stones have been largely sold to Yuppies with too much equity in their homes, who jumped into the stores to be "business owners". But since the labor costs are double the competition, and stores are too big and too expensive to run, the number of unprofitable stores is skyrocketing with the results we have here.

I don't know too much of the origins of it but I can see it being kinda Fad-ish. Being a young girl who's pretty much on the poor side I always opted for less expensive when I was buying ice cream but jumped at the oppotunity when parents offered to buy for cold stone. Now that I work there and get a discount, it's not so pricy but I can easily see shopping elsewhere if I didn't. The one thing that I like about Coldstone that other ice cream places haven't caught onto yet isn't any of the gimic stuff really but the smell when you walk in the door. It literally smells like a bakery and stirs the appetite for something sweet. I always liked the cake and cookie ice creams best though so knowing there is healthy portions of cake, brownie, cookies in it is appealing also. I have to admit however, there was a year back when I was still young that 31 Flavors came out with an ice cream of the month called "Let Them Eat Cake" and it's still my favorite ice cream to date even over the ones I get to sample on a daily basis at Coldstones.
