Time Magazine has an article about a man who was drafted for Vietnam in 1972 and is still serving in the U.S. Military today. No, he wasn't drafted for a 40 year tour; after his two years were up he volunteered to stay in the military as a ranger ( Read more... )

Yeah, take Finland for example. We have a conscription army/mandatory service for males (that's so sexist!) and we haven't started a war since 1941! And even that was just a continuation to the tiff Soviets started in 1939...

You notice how those whose reaction to soldiers' hardships (and, you know, death)is "hey they volunteered, so quit whining!" are never poor people?
