Title: The Necklace

Disclaimer: I don't own anything (not even half of the bloody story line!) I wish I did though, Janeway and Chakotay might get somewhere with each other!
Author's Notes: This is set waay into the future, and is spoilery for 'Resistance' and anything after that!
My dearest Ralkana,
By the time you read this, you'll be sixteen years old, and about to start your freshman year. You have grown into such a beautiful young lady. You have made your father and myself proud. We wanted to give you something special. I didn't think a visit to your animal guide would be special after the fifth time, so I decided for both of us that we would give you this.
I was given this necklace from a man who loved his daughter very much, enough to die for her. This man saved my life twice.
I never explained to you why your father and I decided to call you Ralkana. When were travelling through the Delta Quadrant, we were on a planet where there was a resistance against their rulers. We (Tuvok, Neelix, auntie B'Elanna and I) were on the planet when a fight broke out. Neelix was inside a shop getting some tellerium, which we needed for the warp core, but I was knocked out, and worse than that, B'Elanna and Tuvok were captured.
An old man, by the name of Caylem, rescued me, and tended to my wounds. I woke up and, he started calling me Ralkana. Ralkana was his daughter. His memory was bad, but he remembered that his daughter liked to wear this necklace on special occasions. He helped me get B'Elanna and a bruised Tuvok out of the Mokra prison (they were the evil rulers), and he killed the leader, but he died too. I told him that "my" mother had forgiven him for being wary of joining, and that she appreciated the letters the he and "I" had written.
Ralkana had died five years earlier, but her father still loved her. And so, this is what we are giving to you. This necklace is a symbol of our undying love for you, and a goodluck charm for school. It helped me get through Borg, Hirogen, my first officer not talking to me for a day because I was assimilated, marriage to that same man, and you teething!
We love you Ralkana. Never forget that.
