Title: Go, Leave

Disclaimer: This is based on a song that isn't mine, a lot of the dialogue isn't mine, the character's aren't mine. The only thing that is mine is the angst!

Dark.
Empty.
Cold.
Alone.
Kathryn curled up on her bed, the last time she'd sleep there, her three-week mission at an end after seven years of travelling.
Seven.
That was supposedly a magic number. But Kathryn felt everything but magic when she thought of that number.
"She's better than me."
"What are you talking about Kathryn?"
"Or, at least... she's stronger. She will make it last longer."
"That's... nice."
"For you. Go. Leave. Don't come back."
"Kathryn, you're not making any sense!"
"No more am I for the taking." Kathryn started crying.
"What's wrong?" Chakotay asked, concern etching his soft voice.
"I can't say that my... heart's not aching. It's breaking in two."
Chakotay sat down. "I remember days when we laughed a lot."
Kathryn smiled. "Those that weren't so good, I soon..."
"Forgot?" She nodded. "We could sit and talk til words were coming out our ears. Not just for days, or weeks, or months."
"But it's been years."
"And here they come, here come my tears." Chakotay wrapped his arms around her.
"So?"
"Go, leave. You said goodbye." She bowed her head. She went to her bedroom, and curled up in her bed. She heard the doors open, and close, and she allowed the floodgates to open properly.
"Could it be that you are stalling?" Kathryn turned to face the door. Chakotay was there, the light behind him.
"Go away, you don't want me."
"That's the funny thing about love. Hearts have a way of calling, when they've been true." He walked to her bed. "I've been true." They smiled, and they wrapped their arms around each other.
Where there was darkness, now there was light.
Where there was emptiness, now things were complete.
Then she was cold, now she is warm.
Then they were alone, now they are loved.
