I have been using a Credit Card that I was given at the ripe old age of 14. When my car broke down and I needed to drop 1,000 dollars worth of repairs, it hit me that my credit card's limit was $2,000 and scared the crap out of me. Renting a car cost 400 dollars in 4 days ( ... )

So, I just opted to accept the Chase Bank Visa card offer. When you accept an offer for one credit card, all the credit card companies in the world send you their offers. This way, you can pick and choose a second card or one to replace your first.

Also, don't apply for many cards at once. It hurts your credit rating. Just apply to one, wait to get it, and then apply to another type. In other words, don't apply to just Mastercards.

Good hunting.

Thanks! Good thinking. I'm thinking of switching banks so hopefully they'll be able to help me find a good credit card.

Agreed, adulthood blows.

Adulthood sucks; I realized just after graduation that it's hard to get credit w/o a credit history. I like the Brown Alumni card I got, since it has a pretty picture of Brown and okay features, plus as a Brown alum they can't turn you down. My own fucking bank turned me down.

Good luck Marian!

p.s. where the hell are you, what are you doing, etc etc?

Pooey.

I hate all this must have A to get B; must have B to get A nonsense that seems to happen in the 'real world'.

I'm currently (and only) in Miami - which is somewhat similar to hell - working in retail and not really moving forward in any real way.

But! I am headed to Ecuador for a month in March to volunteer at a children's clinic. So that'll be a nice change of pace.

Suggestions for using up the rest of my time on earth greatly appreciated.
