All links are to artist websites for legal downloads. Let's get this party started...
DJ AJG A bunch of one-hour or longer mixes. Blippity-boopity dance stuff. Lately I've just been running to DI Black Label Three Mix. Walk 5 minutes with no tunes, then start the song and stretch. About 3 minutes in there's a slow point...that's when you get back on the treadmill, because the beats kick up right after that.
Ninja High School Canadian rappers! "Shake It Off" is a good keep-your-butt-moving song, with pop culture references. Sweet.
Meligrove Band Go to their Music page and get "Our Love Will Make the World Go Round" RIGHT NOW. You can thank me later. (Also Canadian!)
The Mendoza Line Immediately after that, go to this page and download "It's A Long Line (But It Moves Quickly)". And then thank me more. All their free tunes are definitely worth checking out. (Not Canadian. Awww.)
Okkervil River Put some hipster indie kid in your run. Embarrassing confession: I've been known to air-drum on the treadmill when listening to "Black." (Although it suffers mightily from BES--Bad Ending Syndrome. Is nobody teaching people how to end songs these days?)
The playlist is constantly evolving, but here are some tried and true winners.
warm-up:
The Flaming Lips, "Fight Test" (again with the BES, but other than that a winner all around)
Blur, "Moroccan Peoples Revolutionary Bowls Club" (I'm big into songs about the apocalpyse lately)
this isn't too hard yet:
Kanye West, "Golddigger" (reminds me of dancing in Vegas with the girlz)
The Killers,"Mr. Brightside" (duhhhhhhh)
The Streets, "Fit But You Know It" (I heart people who keep their native accents when spoken wording/rapping/singing. Plus, British slang!)
LCD Soundsystem, "Daft Punk Is Playing In My House" (fuck yeah!)
XTC, "Paper & Iron" (double fuck yeah!)
I hate myself and want to die
Outkast, "Bombs Over Baghdad" (triple fuck yeah! if this doesn't make you pick up your feet, check your pulse)
William Shatner, "Common People" (waiting for this song to get good keeps your mind off the slooooow slowwww ticking of treadmill numbers)
Galaxie 500, "Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste" (seven minutes of guitar orgasm, plus advice on living!)
LibriVox Public Domain Audiobooks Did I say quadruple fuck yeah yet? Lots of titles, lots of voices. Free bedtime stories! Or running stories, if that's your cup of tea.
