My latest entries are protected and only visible for people on my friends list.  If you'd like to be added please just leave a comment letting me know who you are.  Thanks!  -Sara

(The date I gave this entry is my 50th birthday... that ought to be far enough in the future I think!!)

hi Sara, it's Mike Reilly. I saw your Betsie post on linkedIn and found my way here.

Hi Sara, you left a comment on my blog (about lipreading). I'm a musician also, although with 2 CI's now, my sense of pitch hasn't quite come back yet. I was just getting there when my other ear crashed; I got my 2nd CI on July 3. I mostly took violin and viola; was in the orchestra in HS and college. But I can't read tenor clef any more. It's been too long. But I still love to sing. I'm interested to read more of your blog here--but, like you, I have too many tabs open already that I want to get read....! Can I be on your friends list? :)

Hi Liz. I was trying to find a photo of a CI and patch cord for someone today and ended up at the advanced bionics site and then your blog. I don't think of myself as a "blogger" really since I hardly ever write more thanmy spur of the moment thoughts, but you're welcome to them!

Music is my biggest reason not to consider myself a CI candidate yet. It is hard though when people tell me my hearing is soo bad and I should get implanted. I guess it's a personal measure that doesn't transfer to a hearing test or audiogram. I listen to music in my car all the time and enjoy it. I play sax every week in a 80 member concert band and enjoy that too.

I guess I just have to trust that I'll know when things get bad enough to want a CI. Hopefully :)

Liz,
I meant to say thanks for your very encouraging note. The only people who say I should get a CI are people who've never met me, or looked at a single audiogram and made up their mind. I'll trust you that I'll know when I'm ready.

I'm actually very excited about new technology, either improvements to CIs or implants like the Envoy Medical Esteem that provide more natural hearing. I'm not out to find anything that's invisible, but waterproof would be amazingly great.

I miss Rochester as well. I've been away since 2002 living in NJ and then Washington DC and now Charlottesville VA. I like it here, but Rochester and even my hometown of Binghamton and upstate NY in general... I miss it a lot, especially in the muggy summer months.
